Same reason the Ai drafts P/K in the first half of a draft,
or calls shotgun running plays,
or re-signs FAs to what they are initially asking for (ex: $2M base / $2M bonus),
or goes for it on 4th and 15 when you're in FG range down by 9 with 3 minutes to go,
or ALWAYS runs the ball if you're inside your own 35 with less than 2 minutes to go in the first half,
or.....

The logic for the AI releasing because of too many players is:

1) Rebuild your depth chart based on your player attribute weights
2) Cut the player at the bottom of your depth chart

It probably needs to build the depth chart based on future rather than current to reduce that, but it's trying to not cut your better players.

Cap room is different, it cuts the players that will give you the biggest cap savings so as to cut as few players as possible.

I have a bad memory of forgetting to get below 60 before training camp, only to have the Ai cut my 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks that I had just drafted.

I dont feel sorry for teams that lose good players cause they didn't manage their teams. What's the point of playing a management game if ya dont manage? To the penalty box with ya.

While were at it, they should lose skybox privileges for 3.5 games. Make em sit in the endzone with the rowdies explaining why he/she didn't make the roster deadline resulting in the fans favorite player being cut. :)

On one hand I agree.

On the other hand, sometimes real life happens and you miss a sim.

It sucks when that results in the Ai making the worst decision possible for the situation. In addition to losing my top 3 draft picks, imagine the dead cap I had on my books having to eat all the bonus money those players just got.

It would be nice if the Ai would at least occasionally make an intelligent decision when asked to do so.

Now, if there was a message stating "If the Ai has to cut players for you, it will make the decision that will be the most damaging to your team as a penalty for not making MFN the #1 priority in your life.", then I would know what to expect and think it did an excellent job!
