i think Miami Dolphins got it because they won their game more than the jets won theirs

Looks like it's a glitch in the 'clinching' algorithm ... interesting that it considered both of them eliminated instead of neither of them. I think Punisher is right, Miami is also the top of the list which is using the tiebreaker algorithm and I'm pretty sure that's what's used for the playoffs.
