As vague as they are the new blocking stats shed a whole new light on over or under performing linemen . It's really cool to see those stats! What I've noticed watching games is there to see. This game is getting so cool to evaluate and grade players on feild performance compared to the ratings . ...or salaries .
I have noticed that the highest ranked player isn't always the best. I have always wanted to know what I should be paying these players and the only way I could figure that is to get an average on what everyone is paying their players for each position and divide that by the average top rank.
I didn't use the passes and runs block to this because it is fairly new plus I notice the numbers didn't add up to the total number of plays. I used the players penalties and sacks allowed for the offensive line because those to can really effect your game play.
Next I divide them into 4 tiers the tier at the top is the best players and I find out take the average of their salaries and ratings to find out how much each point is worth. The final outcome is their performance salary average with the their tier salary to get what you see above.
With the new stats on pass and rush I may be able to determine which offensive lineman fit which scheme best.
The only reason they don't match up is because you can get a run block , or allow a run tackle allowed, after the catch is made.
When I was using an all pass offense you could actually see how many of these run blocks were a block on a pass play. It did make up a decent number of total run blocks tackles allowed but still was below a quarter of total stats.
Under a balanced plan it probably would make up for around 1/10 of actual run play numbers. Well for linemen at least....recievers would be completely blocking after he catch was made.
To me a way better (quicker) measure than just watching film. Now we just the tackle for loss/ allowed stat added for lineplay and I would be set on evaluations . Cause a tackle allowed down feild 20 yards is valuable to know but one for -3 is gold.
