I don’t pay attention to this stuff in real life, but I am assuming the 12-4 team in the nfc, the 2nd seed would get to play the team with the worst record.
The only reason I noticed is we are playing the team with the worst record while we were only 11-5. Is it supposed to work that way? I really have no idea

Seeds 1 through 4 are the division winners, and seeds 5 through 7 are the three best non-division winners. So it is possible (and happens often) that the visiting team actually has a better record than the home team in the playoffs. Seed 5 can easily have a better record than seed 4.
