"Welcome" thread for new users?

I've been toying with the idea of automatically creating a "Welcome" thread in a league when someone joins. Something in the vein of:
Subject: Welcome to FootballGuru37!
Message: Please welcome FootballGuru37 to MFN-1 as he takes over Atlanta for the 2015 season!
Any thoughts on pros or cons?

Sure, why not. Maybe in its own special forum board within the league.
