I bet it's on the list, but just to make sure: eventually users will be able to customize these, right?

The plan is to introduce private leagues where a user can create a league and as the commissioner have full control over the team names, locations, and images. I don't plan to give that access to the users in public leagues at this time.

Private leagues will launch shortly after the official launch, aiming for probably September.
