Well I can now see that my team is back to its former self.

Nice win San Fran, Meyer ended up eating some burritos on the drives he threw interceptions and my defense just didnt care about stopping the run or the pass.

Good luck the rest of your way to a winning season.

Just looked at some stats now that we are at the halfway mark, and noticed something pretty interesting. Looks like defensive performance is up about 5% across the board. Teams like New Orleans and Tennessee, for example, seem to be getting there on the backs of their D. I remember seasons where if you couldn't pass the ball, you were doomed. Doesn't look like that's so much the case, especially this season.

Yards from scrimmage doesn't tell near enough of the story. In my never to be humble opinion, you don't measure a plays success by the yards it gained, but by whether it was "a successful play" or not. For example, it's 3rd and 10, your team passes for 9 yards. Not a successful play. It's 3rd and 1, your QB scrambles for 2 yards. That's a successful play.

So, successes to me are:

Gaining 1/3 of the yardage for a 1st down, or more, or a TD, on 1st down.
Gaining 1/2 of the yardage for a 1st down, or more, or a TD, on 2nd down.
Getting a 1st down or a TD on 3rd down.
Flip it all for defense.

I've got New Orleans at 3rd place on defense with a 70% success rate. Tennessee in first on D with a 75% success rate.

I've got New Orleans at 18th on offense with a 38% success rate. Atlanta in first on O with a 48% success rate.

Matter of fact, Atlanta looks like the real deal at this point. I have them as the second best defense and the numero uno offense.

Thats a neat evaluation. ATL is solid, but will it hold true. Controling the clock would allow for more or less chances. And as a bend but not break defense I am more concerned in stopping Smiths runs on 3rd down. QB spy all game long.

Take them out of there element and your formula might hold true. Right now it looks as they are running a 2 QB system, but they cannot run or play solid defense. Just once your behind good luck catching up. They play way different when behind. Every team does. It's like a switch sometimes.

I don't think defenses are playing any better, or may be they are cause olinemen just got alot more important.

Screen plays would be an added dimension that's for sure. A couple of other things I have noticed is that QB'S are taught to throw to the side were the CB blitz is coming from. In this game it appears they always go to the opposite which I think is causing an inflated interception number. Also I see a lot of faster players with the ball and a more then 5 yard spread being run down from behind by slower rated players. The tackling or lack of it is also an issue.
I'd like to add that I dont see much intelligence either. I have a play where he throws it to the rb no matter what lol...I'd like to know what makes the QB come off his first read?
