GREEN BAY, Jan. 1 — The Green Bay squad, under head coach Bernard Jones, secured a 29-23 overtime victory against Minnesota on the road in Week 18 of the 2078 regular season. The game was marked by several lead changes and pivotal turnovers that ultimately favored the Packers.

Minnesota took an early lead scoring 17 unanswered points before halftime, with quarterback Brian Thompson connecting three times and Manuel Lee running in a touchdown. Thompson completed 29 of 54 passes for 351 yards and one touchdown, while Lee rushed 27 times for 148 yards and one score. Receiver Ray Byrne was a key target, compiling 157 receiving yards.

Green Bay struggled to gain significant momentum in the first half with interceptions hampering offensive drives, including two picks by Minnesota defenders. At halftime, Minnesota led 17-0.

The third quarter saw Minnesota extend their lead to 20-0 on a Randal Garcia 19-yard field goal. However, Green Bay responded aggressively. Quarterback Rodger Streetman connected on two touchdown passes—one to Chad Sailor and another to David Gentile—narrowing the score to 20-16 entering the fourth quarter. Streetman finished 21-for-36 for 223 yards, throwing two touchdowns and two interceptions.

The fourth quarter featured a series of back-and-forth scoring, starting with a Michael Dockery 48-yard field goal followed by a Streetman touchdown pass and extra point, bringing Green Bay within three points. Dockery later converted a 58-yard field goal to tie the game at 20-20. Minnesota reclaimed a 23-20 lead with Garcia’s 34-yard field goal with under a minute remaining.

With just six seconds left, Dockery nailed a 59-yard field goal to send the game into overtime. In the overtime period, a critical turnover occurred when Minnesota’s Louis Taylor fumbled after a 4-yard catch. The fumble was recovered by Green Bay's Shane Frakes, who returned it 13 yards for the game-winning touchdown, sealing the 29-23 victory for Green Bay.

Defensively, Green Bay forced four fumbles and recovered all four, alongside three interceptions, two sacks, and holding Minnesota to two rushing touchdowns. The Packers were penalized twice for 15 yards and converted only 3 of 14 third-down attempts, while Minnesota converted 8 of 17.

The victory concludes Green Bay’s season at 6-11. Minnesota, despite the loss, entered the offseason as division champions with a 10-7 record.

This game was the final regular-season matchup for both teams and had no playoff implications due to Green Bay's earlier elimination and Minnesota clinching the division. Green Bay’s resilience in the closing moments demonstrated defensive opportunism and special teams execution.

Green Bay outgained Minnesota on the ground with 31 rushes for 59 yards, led by standout receivers Fredrick Oconnor and Kevin Nelson with 66 and 63 receiving yards respectively. Despite the loss, Minnesota's Steven Beeler added a touchdown catch. The Packers’ Bernard Jones will look to build on this late-season momentum heading into the offseason.
