RULE QUESTION

By Wolfkill

I applied my 1st rule ever on defense to see how it would work out.
It was a disaster to say the least.
1st rule was goaline "pass" set to 100% pass of course
2nd rule was goaline "run" set to 100% run only.

Why was the 1st rule of "pass" used on every single play? My opponent kept running goal line plays all day and the run rule NEVER triggered.
Please give me some insight so I don't lose my desire to play this game anymore.
Much appreciated and Happy New Year to you all.

I shall assist. :)

Basically, what you want to do is set up the rule so that it runs your goal-line defenses and lets say your opponent runs exclusively out of the set.....do the 10% and 17% run downs for LBs and DBs and then put 100% run. It works effectively.

There's twists and turns and stuff but straight forward 100% goal-line, run key will shut down runs effectively.

Oh and if rules conflict then what'll occur is the first one listed will always trigger over anything below it which is what seems to have happened here.

I'm not sure what you mean by 10% and 17% run downs..
My goalline plays were straight forward (basic) plays to see if it worked. I looked over both rules, besides the plays and one being 100% pass, the other 100% run it's identical.
I didn't look to see if my opponent "ran exclusively" out of GL, yet I thought if they did run, the 2nd GL rule would pick it up.

Looking at the plays in this particular game, it did show I was in pass key when in fact they were running the ball.
...but my rule is set to 100% pass so why would it even run that rule??

I kind of see what you were doing. No, you can't set it up in terms of saying 100% key if he runs from out of the goal-line and now I'll write another rule that it'll 100% pass key if he uses the PA TE Drag from out of the Regular Goal-line Set.

Basically, you have to decide how to play it. If you're writing a rule on defense for how to approach the Regular Goal-Line Set and if you want to stop the run per se then it'll look like this:

100% Goal-Line Defense
10% on that entire Secondary Field (slide the bars to equal it out) = 100%
17% on that entire LB Field (slide the bars to equal it out) = 100%

Then in the next section slide it to 100% run key.

This is just one example of how to approach the Goal-Line Set.

But now by doing that when the PA TE Drag pops up your defense will counter with its Goal-Line Defense in a Run Key since you opted to load up and stop the run.

Or conversely if you went 100% pass key then pass key would come up for that pass play but it'll also come up pass key for any run from out of that set.

I thank you for your help. I'll give this a go and try it out.
