Right ok. So tonight is the final night of games to decide the final 4 on new years eve right?

After the playoff committee discuss on Tuesday, tonights results will have a huge impact on their decision process as to who deserves to be in the top 4.

Surely if bama are above Georgia in rankings why didn't they reach this conference final that I'm watching atm?

But UGA win gives them the SEC Championship tittle...the committee might factor that in.

All conference championship games are played at a neutral site..UGA are not at home per-say...the SEC championship game is held in Atlanta, GA.

Bit odd that they don't all finish their season the same weekend. So tonight is still regular season with uga win taking them to top of sec? ?
Sorry if this is so obvious to you

Most Conferences are split into two divisions, the winner of those divisions meet in the Conference Championship. Tonights games are those championship games. Alabama did not win it's division, so they cannot participate in the SEC Championship.

THE Auburn University (best school ever) is in the lovely state of Alabama.

A bit of random info dump for you:

Auburn and Alabama are the biggest rivals in college football. They're both in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), and both have histories of being really good. In recent history, Alabama has been the better team, but I guess that's just what happens when you have the best college football coach ever. Seriously. I hate the University of Alabama, but I have the utmost respect for Nick Saban. Anyways, the teams have been really big rivals and are in the same division of the SEC. They play once a year in the Iron Bowl. You should look it up, it has a really interesting history, and I believe there are some great documentaries about it and the two teams' massive (and occasionally dangerous) rivalry.

The Conference Championship games and Conference winners are determined by their records playing within the Conference. Auburn had one loss in conference play (6-1) and Alabama had zero (7-0). When Auburn beat Alabama in the Iron Bowl this year, their conference records became the same (7-1), giving Auburn the head-to-head advantage in the tiebreaker. That's why Auburn, who had a 10-2 total record, was in the Conference Championship ahead of Alabama, who had a 11-1 total record.

Auburn was ranked higher than Alabama and Georgia (until yesterday) because Auburn was both teams' only loss.

The Playoff Top 4 look like this now: 1. Clemson, 2. Oklahoma, 3. Georgia, 4. Alabama.

Teams will play in Bowl games now, which are meaningless games that any team with a winning record gets to play in. They don't affect Conference record or anything like that. It's just a chance for most of the teams to get to play on national television and to see how good teams would perform against each other. Teams get matched up with other teams that are ranked similarly and such.

Great thanks - some I already knew some was news to me!
I'd heard about the rivalry & even killing trees etc? ! I saw an espn doc about it last year
I also have seen the pick six game from 4 years (?) Back when one of the teams one after a missed field goal right? !
Didn't know that the bowls were for any 500+ team. Assume they still try to win for honour.
So who will win the overall title do you think?

Yup, that was another win for Auburn with the Kick Six a couple years back. Good times. And yeah, a crazy Alabama fan killed the tree at Tumor's Corner. I was on the campus when it happened.

As for who will win it all? I hope either Clemson or Oklahoma. I want to believe Oklahoma can do it, I really do, and their quarterback has the all-important "it" factor, but they play in the Big-12, which is a super weak conference. When they play Georgia, it'll be really telling. I think Clemson has the talent to win it all, though you certainly can't rule out Alabama. Clemson, however, has the - and you can quote me on this:
Best Defensive Line I Have Ever Seen.
