Franchise tagging

Often, an owner is confronted with a player who needs to be re-signed due to his last year of contract! Often, an owner is faced with the Dilemma of whether to re-sign him or not because of his outrageous bonus request! Often, an owner Figures it's best to release him into the free-agent pool and take a chance at re-signing him then! I think it would be awesome if we could just franchise tag him so that he stays on the roster, I believe the formula is an average of the top five in that position based on the money that they make!

Not entirely sure what's behind this idea, but as I read it, I believe that you're unhappy with spending the money required to sign a franchise player.....which in turn COULD be because you already have a number of wage heavy players on the roster.

I do understand your position if the above description is the case.
However, if it became possible to sign multiple franchise players, the whole idea of having a cap would become more indifferent.
The fact that you can only sign a few franchise players is driving you as the GM into taking some tough and hard decisions.
"Do I risk this wonder into free-agency in hopes of resigning the ****** at less pay?"
"Should I stick him on the trade block and make a good deal out of him?"
"Do I trade 1 or 2 others and begin to rearrange over a longer term?"

I think these kinds of dilemmas are interesting and fun, despite them being anoying and painful to deal with.

The NFL has franchise tagging. It's been requested a few times.

I recently took over a "development" team. Their one major asset was one of the top QBs in the league. Turned out he was in the last year of his contract with no option to re-sign. So he played for me one season and went to FA . . . I like rebuilding teams, but probably not going to keep this one long term as a result.
