QB failing to see wide open receivers even with plenty of time

I'm just curious, but this happened to me twice in the last game. I'm not upset, but the outcome would have been totally different had these plays been different.

QB is here:

Now I think there are a couple of things happening here. First of all the defenders just let the receivers run free, most often on that corner route. That happens quite often. But in these two situations the defense is using the Goal line Attack #3 which leaves 3 defenders to cover receivers. Two of those defenders begin a M2M on and stick with it well. But the third kind of stays at home in the middle like he's a spy. Shouldn't he be on one of the other two receivers?

The other thing that happened both times here is the QB gave himself plenty of time to look downfield, but was unable to see the TE deep, with no one on him, nor the FB in the flat running to the sideline with no one in front of him.

Now, I'm just saying that the defenders should be able to adjust their coverage for this play and take out 3 of the 4 receivers. Right now they're not doing anything with 2 of them allowing them to run free. And at the same time, the QB should be able to see these free running receivers and get the ball to them, especially with even a decent field of vision.

Just something that may need to be looked at sometime in the future.

QB's miss things in RL all too often. Seems more RL than a game bug.

It's funny, after working on this game all these years I see things when watching real football that look like bugs to me :-)

This is being addressed in the next game engine (much better QB play is coming) but of course it won't be completely eliminated and will be dependent on your QB's experience (which it is now, but I do agree that it is too frequent in the current version, which is why it's being updated in the next version)

May I suggest you be careful how much you improve offenses. Overall scoring is still high as it is...

Yes, that's true - along with this update is an improvement to DB play, a reduction of the QB throwing into tight coverage and a reduction of that success - basically re-looking at the whole passing game. I have a few metrics that I use for long-term testing such as completion percentage and yards per pass attempt that I watch to make sure changes on one side of the ball are balanced by counter changes to the other side of the ball.

It's funny that this occasioned a lot of comment.

I just thought it strange that it was the exact same play, offensively and defensively, and the second time the QB rolled out and had a clear view of the TE on a corner route.

I'm sure things like this happen all the time in real life, but I would bet that after that play happened the first time the receivers would have told the QB how open they were and he could have been looking for it the next time. :)

But it's no big thing. I'm looking forward to tweaks coming up in the game to steer it a little farther in the right direction.
