Changing position to conceal player value

There's a debate going on in one of the leagues right now over an owner who changed the position of eight of his players before releasing them, so that as Free Agents they did not look as valuable without looking by specific position. For instance a 75 rated D lineman was changed to a 30 rated O lineman. About half the league sees it as fair play gamesmanship, the other sees it as unsportsmanlike.

I would like to note that this was a technique used in this games big team-stacking scandal a few months ago to move players on the cheap from one team to another without having to trade for them. However in this most recent case, no single team tried to pick up all the players so it does not look to be a repeat of that incident.

The debate in the league is pretty good, so I wanted to see where people from the entire community stand on this topic.

I think its pretty bad imo. We should be able to change a position on Defense from another position on defense.

But a D-Line playing O-Line ? I don,t agree with this. If you gotta cut a player, cut him. in the NFL there's a Waiver priority list. like every GM gets an email or a notice from the league saying when some players has been cut and they gotta go thru waivers before they hit the market.

unsportsmanlike and shouldn't work. A GM wouldn't say "oh were not even gonna evaluate this guy cause that other team moved him to a different position."

Unsportsman like and needs to be changed. There needs to be a way to see guys ratings at other positions that is easier than searching each individual position in free Agency

The tough part is seeing where a player is better suited so it makes this type of exploit easy to implement.

Not sure how easy this would be to do but if possible it would be cool to list their current position and somehow also list their best overall rated position. Something like:

Current position LG = 33/55
Best Overall position DT = 66/69

That way you would at least have a hint that there may be a better spot for the player and you would have some sense of the basic position group that you should be searching.

This has been recommended before. I think the issue is that since we have the ability to do custom player weights, that would be very resource-heavy and would slow down the game a lot. Also, there's a slight bias towards LT and DLine. Those positions are naturally rated a bit higher in this game by default.

After release.....send him back to the best position.

Whenever a player is cut (or becomes a FA), they should automatically be assigned to their best position, based on the generic player weights.

Agree.

I would view that as outside the spirit of the rules for one. Second, the player would want to be paid the most at his best position, not a poor fit.
