Actually, yes, this is exactly what I want. I want an LB with these attributes to win against a RB with these attributes 9,999 times out of every 10,000 plays. That would allow for the 1 time Woodhead breaks a tackle against Ray Lewis, and the whole crowd goes, did he just do that?

Because Woodhead is not going to break a tackle against Ray Lewis each game, every game like a MFN Woodhead does against a MFN Lewis right now.

What happens now is that because a Woodhead can break a tackle so easily against a Lewis is that a MFN Jerome Bettis or Marshawn Lynch rolls down the field breaking 4, 5, 6, 12 tackles a play until being brought down by a FS who has a worse tackling skill than the two defensive lineman and three linebackers that hit him before. And, don't lie, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

I actually think there are two problems with tackling versus break tackle:

1) The shrug off as discussed throughout this thread where I'm almost certain the calculations favor the RB (I've yet to hear JDB tell me otherwise, so until he does, I'm going to continue to hold this position)

2) The generation of the break tackle attribute versus the tackling attribute. I need to do a statistical analysis of it, but I'm willing to bet there are more RBs generated that have 100 break tackle, then there are defenders that have 100 tackle in a league.

Ok, thanks. I have a better understanding of your point of view on this now, but I disagree.

This is not what I want to see in MFN.

I can appreciate that.

I'll just continue to work on game plans that put up insane rushing yards. (Except in 13. That team continues to be a trainwreck of epic proportions.)

I just had a thought.

If you were to add tackles and missed tackles together for your LBs (or anyone I guess), would that get the numbers where you would expect them to be?

If not, the issue may be more in the LBs not being in the right position, or substituting too frequently, too many pass plays, etc.

I just did this with one of my teams that is in the playoffs so I have a complete year's worth of data, and it did not make a difference.

My DBs are still the team leaders. Also, if I add all the totals and compare the LB position group to the DB position group, the DBs lead. This leads me to believe the DBs are getting the bulk of the tackles because the offenses I am playing against are pass heavy, or at least they are when they get down big to me:).

I'm just thinking there could be a reason other than missed tackles for why LBs aren't leading the league in tackles.

I wonder if the issue also isn't that the LBs tend to get blocked more than you might expect, leaving only the DBs to make the tackles?

That's a good point. That's why I've gone to weighing SP, Tackle, and Run Defense above all other LB attributes. I probably should rank ST higher as well.

What does run defense do exactly though? Does it have anything to do with getting off of blocks or is it only the player's ability to recognize where the run is going and take the proper angle or to close quickly?

Get off of blocks.

I thought strength determined whether you got off blocks.

I'm pretty sure strength determines how much a player moves/is moved while a block is held.
