position battles

I was wondering if you guys have position battles during the preseason, or do you have an idea as to who is making your final 53 immediately following training camp (barring injuries, of course)?

For example, I've got a position battle for some backup spots at the bottom of the roster, with the "marquee matchup" being how to order my backup RBs

I usually have an idea of who will play where as soon as the draft is over, because I draft to fill certain positions, including backups or specialty blitzers.

I usually know where everyone will play and who I will cut before the first preseason games because of how the +/- system during training camp works.

So you gamble on a player in the fourth or fifth round and he goes -8 in camp, he's gone. I even consider cutting any player that busts more than -4 or -5 in camp no matter where I drafted him. I'm looking forward to the volatility rating being visible so I don't have to draft busts in rounds 1-3 anymore.

I hope the volatility rating never becomes visible.
I hate having busts, but that hidden element adds a ton of realism too. You just never know...

I'm not cutting a 92. I don't care that he 'lost' 7 Points from a 99, he's still a 92.

well JDB could make that volatility and even you don't have a full coaching staff HIDDEN like scores do where you have to click that yellow bar to see the scores.

then you would never see it and problem solved.

It would be cool, only if Volatility works BOTH ways.

Sure he could Bust, but h could also be more likely to Boom.

For those guys Draft Rated at a 99 it's more Risk, because a 'Boom' just means he stays a 99... but it's just as likely to happen as him losing 10 Points (and even then, he's still an 89. How horrible is that, to have an 89? I have 2 LBs that lost 5 and 7, dropping them to 93 and 92, I'm not upset at it at all. They didn't 'Bust', ****, they are still going to be Studs.

Now when a 90+ drops to a 70-80, THAT is a Bust... but even then if he has the Numbers in the right spot he can still work. Because a lot of teams are filled with Starters in that 70-80 Range.

You will still have busts and booms.

I think it adds more realism.

For example, you see all the time before the NFL draft when two players are being compared the scouts may say X has a higher ceiling, but Y has a lower floor.

I'm in favor of any additional information we can use to scout players, or teams.

This is how it will work - high volatility will mean a high probability of a boom -or- bust, but will not indicate which one.

This went very well in our test in MFN-1, it made the draft much more interesting. It lowered the stock a little of those high-rated high-volatility players and I think they dropped more than they would have otherwise, and I feel like it made the later rounds a little more interesting as the higher volatility players were in more demand.
