The main issues this feature is intended to combat are:

1) Users who cut a player during the season and re-sign them to a minimum salary because no one notices (less common in active leagues but it has been done many times)
2) Users who have too much depth, to get the talent on their rosters who are not playing back into the FA pool to improve it

I get that especially because when I release pending FAs in the playoffs I try getting them back under a 2 yr minimum deal.

My issue would be though if I release a player, say over 3 sims of him not getting signed, is he apt to sign a deal with me at all? And how does this relate to preseason releases to get to 53? Will they ever resign if needed during the regular season.

I guess I'm just going back to the mantra "everyone has a price" you may not like me but, if I'm offering a million more .... Wouldn't he sign? Lol

I think there should be two exceptions for a player not willing to re-sign with you:

1. They are not signed to an extension and allowed to become a FA.
You should then still have an opportunity to re-sign them. This is especially troublesome with an aging vet with a 40% chance of retirement. I don't want to give him a $10M signing bonus only to have him retire, but if he doesn't I would like the chance to re-sign him in early FA. Since new contracts are effective in the "current" year, those used to be your only options; take the chance he'll retire and get stuck with the cap hit, or re-sign next season.
We now only have the first option.

2. If they are cut in order to get the roster down to 60 or 53 (depending on the stage).
There are hundreds of real life examples of a player not making the 53 man roster, only to be resigned later.

Those are the only issues I've had with this feature so far.

#1 will not cause them to be unhappy with you - you have to actually cut them, not just let their contract expire.

#2 is a good point.

Thanks. I must have been wrong about what I did with these players (or maybe they were already unhappy and I didn't notice).

My issue is context, but I understand this is pretty much impossible to programme.

Last season I rushed the ball 483 times, with my RB1 and RB2 split carries 202 to 225. My RB3 had 52 carries.

I traded RB3 in the off season for 2 3rd in what was a pretty even trade. RB3 isn't going to move up my depth chart barring injury, had 2 years left on his contract and is in his 5th year. For me, the move benefits everyone, including the player. I could have left him on my roster, his rating is more than reasonable and his cap hit is low, but the price was fair and he's now got a significantly brighter future with a new team.

But he's livid with me. Pretty impossible to programme I'm sure, but just an example that not all trades are negative.

With a trade, it's fairly unlikely that you'll be offering him a contract anytime soon, by the time he plays out his contract with the other team it's likely he'll feel better about you. Players all trend toward 'neutral' unless there are events that push them in one direction or another.

Hey Bling, I thought GrandadB did a pretty effective job on the Forums of giving his Opinion of You.

Now you need a Feature for it? :D :P
