What's the Point in Having So Many Teams?

I understand that many of the "older members" have quite a few teams that they have on "auto-pilot". My question is: Why would you NOT want to limit your teams to 6 or so? You could focus more on roster management, gameplanning, drafting, & trading.

I know almost all of you already have championships under your belt & that the game is somewhat easier for you. I just think "auto-pilot" takes the fun out of the game. I know most of the competition is in 75 & 10. I just wonder what the other Leagues would look like if the "lesser" GM's didn't have to worry about facing your "auto-pilot" monsters.

I made this post for discussion & thoughts from all. Not to cause trouble or point fingers. I'm genuinely curious what EVERYONE thinks about this.

If the other guys can't beat our teams on auto-pilot then did they really earn a championship if they would have beat a bunch of guys that have no clue what they're doing?

I am definitely all for a beginner league or two though. For me roster management day to day is minimal and it's my favorite part of the game which is why I have so many teams.

Owners in MFN1 are essentially there to help with development/testing.

Some folks like to utilize different leagues to test different offensive/defensive philosophies.

Some have been a part of a league since it's inception and invested the time in the allocation draft and still carry those teams.

And you'll have to ask punisher why he's in all of them .. lol

i've found that i needed to pair down some teams because i prefer not to be on auto pilot. I do use some of my teams to try new strategies and it helps me for league 75. My favorite part of the game is drafting and roster building so once i build my teams i have an attachment that makes it hard to let go. I will say 6 has become my magic number. I find that i can properly manage that many teams successfully. Everybody has their own preference, if you are in 25 leagues you have monumentally better chance of winning a title :)

I have the luxury of owning my own business, and I usually work from home. That allows me a lot of "free" time that in the past I have chosen to spend on MFN.

Not only have I managed a lot of teams, but I also watch EVERY game my teams play. The only exception being when I have happened to be out of the country on vacation. Then I'll only watch some.

I think the most I ever had at once was somewhere around 15. I'm down to 9 now, not because I don't have the time, but because I no longer have the interest (I'll be giving more up soon).

I'm sure once some things are addressed/fixed I'll start picking up some more teams again. I'm still hopeful that future changes will get this game back to the point where I love it like I used to.

As far as how long it takes to manage a team, it now only takes me about 20 minutes every two days per team.
1. Watch game.
2. Activate / Deactivate players due to injuries.
3. Minor gameplan adjustments (run/pass, scout plays, etc.)
4. Check to see if I have any trade offers.

I am no longer doing any serious gameplanning because it is a waste of time with the current code unless you just want to run a few of the "exploit" plays, and that's not the way I like to play. I don't consider any of my teams to be on "auto-pilot". I check on every one of them daily.

I am not one of those players who think it is ok to use the regular leagues just to "test" new ideas or exploits. That is what MFN-1 is for. I think the regular leagues should be made up ONLY of teams that are trying to win (at least until they are eliminated from the playoffs), but I know that's never going to be a reality. It's not fair to the other owners in the regular leagues if I take over a team just to see what happens when I blitz 3 LBs every play, then drop it when I'm done with my "test".

I spend much more time reading/posting in the forums than I do managing my teams at this point.

i find it funny that league one is the only league for trying new plays or strategies when not all of us have access to even be in the league. So only the select people in that league can experiment? As for fielding winning teams, i think you can implement new plays and try new things and still when a lot of games.

As an old coach that is disabled now, I have nothing else to do and find it hard to pass up a
team that has never been in the playoffs or had a winning season! I love to rebuild and make
them better, then as Bryson 10 said, it becomes hard to let go!

I agree. You can implement new ideas and try new things while still trying to win the games.

I didn't mean to imply that I felt differently.

I think there is a difference between trying new things with your team while still trying to win, and joining a league just to "test" an idea or something.

I know of an owner who uses multiple leagues to test different strategies, such as:
League A: 100% goal line defense
League B: 100% pass offense
League C: 100% rush offense
League D: 100% dime defense
etc., etc.
Some of his teams win games, most do not.

That's not cool in the regular leagues (in my opinion). It's fine in MFN-1.
