Missed tackles

I cant find any stats on this anywhere for NFL players to compare but it does seem to be pretty high when you have players with 50+ at the end of the season. Seems like it is easier actually to break tackles against the bigger D-Lineman and LB up the middle then it is on CB and safeties when running outside. However the WR's seem to easily be breaking tackles on DB and Safeties after catches way to often.

Yeah, for the number of slow, weak WRs with close to zero break-tackle skill that I've seen bounce off of multiple top tier DBs with excellent strength, speed and tackling, I'm beginning to wonder whether skill has anything substantial to do with the odds of it actually happening. I'm seeing DBs with close to maxed tackling and high strength missing 20+ tackles in a season.

For some real world reference, here's a read on missed tackle #s in the NFL: https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2011/07/21/missed-tackles-three-year-bests-and-worsts/

I like that break tackles are happening, since they hadn't before, but it doesn't seem like actual player skill is being factored very heavily into the formula?

There are other factors, such as the approach angle and speed, that come into play. i.e. it's harder to tackle someone from behind than when colliding head-on. Some broken tackles are where the defender just gets a hand on the ballcarrier enough to alter his path but not enough to bring him down. So there's not really a way to get an accurate similar count in real life.

I'm still monitoring it though, and do have a ticket in to reduce the broken tackle rate of WR's.

Is it harder to tackle someone from behind? I'm not being facetious, but sincere. I'd think it'd be easier, since you're tripping up their feet.

The way tackles are recorded is off. The comparison to the NFL is high due to the lack of assisted tackles. Here it records solo encounters. But watching the play I see some of those missed tackles as being effctive in slowning down the ball carrier. Some are so close I would credit the first guy getting dragged with an assisted tackle. When really he got credited for a missed tackle.

This is a good point and is probably true. I'll put a ticket in to track that.

I've got stud DE's rated 99 in all categories that are missing tons of tackles, more this year than any other.

No..... That would ruin the game because people would be putting teams together just to get their players into the missed tackle hall of fame......
