New leagues are killing older ones.

New leagues are killing established ones, that people have used credits in.

Here's my idea.

1. Put a cap on total number of leagues. The best would be a floating value, based on numbers of active owners. A static number could be used until the logistics are figured out. No new leagues can be created until the number goes below that value.

2. Encourage people who want to start a new league, to take over existing leagues instead, specifically dying ones. This has the advantage of already having some owners in your new league.

3. Make it easier to change the commissioner of a league. JD is already too busy to handle more requests. Maybe a hand off from the current admin to the new one, or a voting solution in cases where the position was just left vacant.

As a relatively new MFN-player, I would absolutely not have started playing the game, if my first experience had been in an older league taking over a dumpsterfire, playing against owners who had time to build their teams for a longer period of time.

In other sports games with promotion and relegation, it works because the bad teams go down and good teams go up, to even the playing field for everyone. In the MFN format, it just doesn't and because the AI is really bad with cap compared to what we can do as owners, taking over a team the AI has touched is often a really bad experience.

I'm more open to rebuilds now, but for a start, I think the entire experience of starting fresh and making all your own mistakes is an important learning experience.

tjynne, owner of Carolina in AGS (only league I play), took over from a bad first season and some time with AI controlling, so he has a worse team than I do and a cap that's in a worse condition. He's taking it in stride and his team is not terrible, but it's just a huge difference only 1½ season in.

I think the job is rather, that older leagues have to keep filling spots in their league as they become vacant. If you accept people leave and do nothing about it, you're setting yourself up for less owners in the long run.

I agree with what you're saying, mostly.

I've been in a couple leagues that folded after going down to 3-5 teams. Having someone taking over one of those leagues would be practically just like starting a new league, but the 3-5 guys who stuck it out wouldn't lose all the work they did.

I would think a new owner (to the site) would be more intimidated by a distribution draft. I didn't try to get into one until I had almost a year of playing under my belt, but that's just me.

JDB should do this because he does have system in place or he use to have a system in place that something like 60 percent of his created leagues had to be full before the system would create a new one.
also by doing this cuts down on so many leagues being deleted or up for deletion

this also should happen because really like i said above also this would cut down on so many leagues being deleted or up for deletion
And if you are not going to do this better just have it where leagues get deleted faster instead of having long backlog of leagues being deleted and backlog of leagues being created.

If nothing else happens this should definitely happen because as it stands now JDB has alot on his plate to deal with and really if he would like put something in place to lessen things on his plate he could actually be able to respond to people's PM and really i would think for game to expand or get better he will have to unfornuately either find ways to LESSEN his load or he will have to file things to what is important/vital to what is not important and chances are he might miss something that could break a league , break the site , etc.

Unfortunately, we can't go back in a Time Machine and adjust to what we now know. The crossroads intersection of when this became an issue was back when MFN-80 league creations occurred alongside the adoption of User Created Private Leagues.

Rehabbing leagues like CJ is with Quick and Customizable and Bill Stein's efforts with AFL is a great way to go. Rally behind the existing Private Leagues, resurrecting them to full league status.

Come on Smirt211 why do you have to do that for??

OP is trying at least to either solve a problem that exists on this site instead of knowing there is a problem and not trying to do anything about OR he is thinking outside the box in the hopes that really there should be a cap on leagues that are being created and being deleted because you could say ONE would think (OK i will admit i am probably only one thinking this ) that it REFLECTS badly on a site when leagues are being created and the admins are on the site for awhile then decide to leave then that LEAGUE gets DELETED .

basically thats my opinion the whole thing about leagues being created then get DELETED really REFLECTS badly on either the SITE and/or JDB and something should be done about it.

Wait, didn't my post just fully endorse him??????

It was a 100% supportive post unless I'm completely missing something.

My man, Punisher, fired up ready to go full on bonkers at me. LOL

Instead of a "Thumps up" acknowledgement of a members post, there should also be a "LOL" or "Hahahaha" type of acknowledgement :)

I firmly believe that the success or failure of any league rest on the shoulders of the league admin for each league.

With so many leagues to choose from, the leagues that have an active league admin providing extra content, pushing for social interaction and actively recruiting will survive.

League admins like Otterpop, Gustoon, Michael77 and Tribewriter to name a few provide a unique and active game playing experience.

We need more owners to become active league admins to support all the leagues we have.

You can go to some leagues and the forums are empty, not even a good game thread. Just welcome new owners and completed trade auto posts. That is fine for some owners that have no interest in any of the social aspects of this game but its been my experience that owners enjoy something extra in the forums.

I hate to see any league fold, but I also believe the created custom leagues are the lifeblood of MFN. Some of the best leagues in MFN are created by someone with a concept and a passion to see it succeed. The generic MFN-# leagues are dying left and right due to lack of leadership and direction. We are up to MFN-85 now and only 24 are still active.

Smirt and punisher, I think you're on the same side here, and something was just read wrong.

You've both been instrumental in getting the AFL ready to roll.

Thanks to both of you.
