Yeah timeouts before the end of the half really need to be fixed..

This game could have gone into overtime if I got a TD and what baffles me more is that to start the 2nd half the other team got the ball, so why not get a touchdown before the half ended?

But I guess the play-it-safe way is how it goes

I think this should be #1 on the list of things that need to be fixed.

And we shouldn't have to wait for a new season for the fix to be implemented. This is really hurting a lot of the games.

There is an update in testing right now that addresses several of the issues raised in this thread and others. Here's my argument against putting this kind of a fix into the current generation, though - sure, you may have lost a game or at least reduced your chances of winning because of this logic, but let's say it happened against a tight division rival. A patch is created, do we put it in before you meet the rival again later in the season, maybe for the division crown? There are a few outcomes:

1) The situation doesn't arise and whether or not the patch was applied has no affect on the game.
2) The same situation arises and the patch is applied. You win the game with the better logic.
3) The same situation arises and the patch is not applied. You are upset again.
4) The same situation arises and the patch is not applied, but this time it's your opponent who gets the short end of the stick. You feel vindicated that they experienced the same fate that you did.
5) The same situation arises and the patch is applied, but this time again it's your opponent who gets the advantage of the patch. Now, not only did you lose the first game because the patch wasn't there, you lost the second game because it was.

Because of #s 4 and 5, I tend to not want to patch something this obvious mid-season, as even though the game engine rules are not correct at least every game had the same rules, so while games may turn on the rules at least everyone had the exact same rules for the whole season.

Curious to hear your thoughts - once this patch is tested I do have the ability to port it into 0.3, but haven't decided whether I will or not.

Yep some of those might hurt at first, but I would prefer the patch in, knowing that the game was better for it, regardless.

I agree with Gus. If its the right thing to do bring it asap and if I (or anyone else) loses out by it during the current season thats bad luck and we could have lost anyway.

My opinion would be to have it included ASAP. I'd be ok losing because something worked correctly.

If there was a glitch that gave everyone 5 downs instead of 4, I wouldn't want to wait until the next season just so every game had this error.

I know this isn't necessarily an "error", just bad AI logic. But, in the event there are real errors (safety errors, for example), I don't see any reason to wait to fix it.

I do have that rule, if it's a real error I'll patch it (like the 2-minute timeout error or the safety error). This one was on the line for me since as you say it's not technically an "error" as much as questionable AI.

I hope to have the timeout patch in MFN-1 for testing within the next week, if there are no issues I'll plan to patch it into the 0.3 engine shortly thereafter.

yeah when it means you are "getting it right" i believe it should go straight in. At the very least it should go straight in to the bleeding edge engine for testing.

It will do that as soon as I know it doesn't break anything obvious - i.e. I want to make sure that there isn't some unintended consequence, like suddenly everyone punting on every play for the last 2 minutes or something.
