Question

Why do I keep beating teams that have considerably more talent?

More than likely, other teams lack of gameplanning and scouting.

They are user teams but maybe they aren't taking time to game plan. A couple other areas I was wondering on is coaching and also while the skill of my team is poor (1st overall pick in last draft) my QB is at 89 with future 94, better than most QBs. Can the QB make up for lack of talent?

I'm new, that was my first draft. Glad I'm winning but I need to understand the why to repeat success. Do the 2 other areas I brought up make a difference or do you think is it just the game planning?

That qb is a beast. but his carry and fumble are questions. Coaches have a minor in game boost specific to ratings and who they coach. When you scout a play there a boost there as well.

Talent wise wr Benson needs to develop, but you have decent weapons. Still, that qb helps...last season your 55 arm qb just cant make the same throws. Going over the top to those speedy guys and dumping it to backs and that TE seems legit enough.

A top tier defense(playing alot of man under) will give you guys problems, but your qb is young...he will get better....i would midigate his lack of ball security with more guys who can get seperation...just so he wont get sacked as much, and then maybe fumble.

Roster management 35%
Game planning 55%
Luck 10%

Coaches mean very little in terms of wins and loses. The head coach dictates plays available in the playbook while all other coaches make a minimal impact on player development.

Roster management is essential to becoming an elite team but master game planners will consistently win versus better rosters over time.

Game planning which includes choosing plays, run/pass ratio and rules are the bread and butter of this game. The closer two owners are in this skill makes the roster management aspect portion more important.

Luck is a factor in this game and many owners dont like to talk about that. Turnovers, play success or failure and injuries all come down to a series of computer "dice rolls". Let's say your RB has 100 avoid fumble and is tackled by a defensive player with 50 strip ball....the odds he fumbles may be 1 in 100....if the roll is that 1.....bad luck.

I counter the above suggested split of success with:

Roster management 70%
Gameplanning 20%
Luck 10%

We have rookie owners in charge of the two bowl teams this season - both having taken over teams with very well built rosters. Not to take anything away from either owner, but they've defeated vastly more experienced owners to get to the bowl. Both bowl franchises have won the title previously, with one of the teams having made the final for 5 consecutive seasons.

Roster building is the bit that matters. Gameplanning is the tiebreaker.

As a rookie owner, I'd like to counter back to fred's suggestion.

Last season we had an influx of experienced owners and hollyhh immediately turned around Chicago, for example.

Brxnivy also pretty much took Houston from rags to riches.

My career as an owner is a great example of this. I have top-notch roster management skills, but I'd only consider myself a journeyman game-planner.

In less experienced leagues I build teams that consistently go to the playoffs based on roster management. In more elite leagues, I build teams that consistently struggle towards breaking even, getting beat on game-planning.

The talent levels may be misleading. Depending on how you set your weights, the overall grade of your players could vary greatly making them appear to be weaker than they actually are.
I recently took over a team in League of Legends that was described as "needing much TLC". At first glance of the roster, after taking the team, I thought theres a lot of good players here. This team is way better than they said it was. Then I remembered to set my weights. I'm pretty much going to have to dump the entire roster. Its bad.

Electro Sports Football League?

I didnt say experienced owners...I said master game planners...2 completely different things.

A quick look at the owners in the league and none of them appear to have played in any other league. So that gives all of you 7 seasons of experience.

I appreciate the example but my percentages are based on playing 100's of seasons in MFN. That league seems to be an isolated case which isnt the norm.

I cant judge the level of gameplanning going on in your league because I simply havent played anyone in it.

All I can say is I have won a bunch of titles in many different leagues and have taken train wreck teams that went 0-16 the previous year and took them to the title game the next and won it the following year.

Rosters matter but gameplanning is King!
