Agreed. Fixing player generation would fix this. Right now the best linebackers in every draft are defensive ends. The best ends are linebackers

Or just play beta . An elite user played a bunch of guys OoP in a big game and lost to a team that didn’t play any guys OoP. To me that shows the flaws of versions pre betas potential 4.6 version

Trying to gain a speed advantage by playing a guy out of position shouldn't be aloud. If you have a guy playing a position he isn't listed as he should automatically be set as that position and the weight and speed adjusted accordingly.

To me it’s not such a big deal a nfl teams do this through pre snap alignment but it’s not so egregious due to the range of speed the guys move at. 4.5 has a big range witch is easier to exploit than 4.6.

If it wasn't an advantage people wouldn't do it. But the game is flawed I have had WR's with 81 speed out run my DB with 95 SP and 94 ACC.

I think it’s common to believe the speed you see on the players card to be something that set in stone per say. I have commented on speed anomaly’s in beta and didn’t receive and feedback.

But in defense if the code there is a lot of other stuff going on that dictates the “true speed “ that players move at. One is there weight, others are fatigue and when speaking of an offensive player moving you have to take into the account for ball carry. Which then blends in to play overuse, scouting, and familiarity.

And the speed numbers you see are a calculation jdb did way back when we went away from speed being displayed without the players weight being involved. With some of the latest tweaks to speed in beta .... I don’t think this has been accounted for, but again it’s just a display ...

And if you take nfl data for 40 times and cross reference them with actual MPH players travel at in game situations you will get anomaly’s as well . So in defense again I will reiterate we have some similarities there but and a big but is that yes our speed scale could be more accurate.

Just think we use weight only when in reality it’s body mass index that’s a better measure. Both for speed , strength, and fatigue. That right there would shrink the scale across the board. Without it we miss out on the athletic freaks and end up having 6’7 running backs and 5’11 tackles. That right there makes for an enlarged talent pool which depreciates the skill ratings

Still, infinity has stated in the past locking players weights in at generation would help. I agree there

I like CJ's idea of creating a couple of hybrid positions eg Edge rusher (DE/OLB), Utility Back(er) (LB/Safety).

Another possibility is to have a players performance impacted if he is playing out of position due to not practicing with that group during the week - so if you have a WR playing RB he's more likely to run the wrong route, fumble the handoff, line up in the wrong spot, draw penalty flags - plus up the chances of a lightweight player getting injured.

Perhaps put it in a Head Coaches AI that he will only use players at certain positions if they fit within 'his' desired weights for the position. Each coach could have his own hidden weights for each position and won't put a player into the game if he doesn't fit his 'scheme' even if the player is #1 on the depth chart.

Finally, players should get 'upset' about having to play out of position, leading to poor form, demanding more money/contract holdout?, refusing to negotiate a new contract and generally causing problems within the team.

Perhaps if they were only permitted to play the positions that they rolled when they were generated. I have had some guy's that were listed at almost every position and others that would only get a few they could play. That would allow for that once in a generation freak.

You will never get one as lighter is faster here ...it just doesn’t work that way in real life. If it were 4.5 the bigger guys would just get beat and then you could not even play them OoP. Yes it would lower the talent pool giving a slight benefit to skilled players but speed still rules.

And the nfl is nothing like that . Levan Kirkland Gained over 60 pounds since coming to the nfl out of college. Why take that part out of the game... when it’s in the real game. He didn’t lose acceleration either and not to much speed to boot. A lot of nfl linemen retire and lose 60-80 pounds like that right after retirement

MLB's averaged about 250 at that time Kirkland was what 260 at that time. I'm saying you shouldn't gain an advantage if you play a CB at DE. you should have to switch them to a DE to let them play that position or the tackle should dominate them because of strength.

At the NFL level it is actually quite rare that a player can change position and be successful. A lot of your draft busts are players who are projected to be something else in the pros than what they were in college. Solomon Thomas comes immediately to mind. I am an older guy and the only player I can remember that really changed his playing weight was Jerry Rice who decided to play 10 pounds lighter later in his career because he was concerned about his running speed. Other than that I have no idea where the whole "MFN speed thing" comes from. You might have SOME realistic cases of a DE getting smaller to play linebacker or a big WR bulking up to play TE but nothing like the stuff that happens in this game. Obvious problem. I don't understand how anyone can defend the speed / position change thing.. That and the talent distribution problem are much bigger issues than the "game code" (and I would think easier to fix) imho. Everyone bitched about 4.4 but, hey, if you tried to cover the 87 speed TE up the seam with a 62 speed SAM linebacker your extra point defense team was going to get a lot of practice... :)
