I agree.

EDIT:
It should have been easy for you to identify with the "US" crowd, and clearly my post is not directed at persons such as yourself.

...but it certainly made you ponder your approach towards communicating our mutual desire for the continued progress of MFN. I'm glad you came away from that moment of reflection knowing you've done the right things, and that what you do in regards to keeping the fun moving forward for all of US as well as how you go about it is worth sharing to the community.

My sincere compliments.

I don't know if this will help or hurt but below is a copy and paste from a recent PM from JDB:

Love MFN....don't give up on us

Thanks - I do have big plans but not enough time to get them done fast ... but slow and steady wins the race, right?

Personally, I'm coming up on 5 years playing MFN in October.

It's not a finished product but it's free and enjoyable if you can enjoy the long view.

Having 2 leagues at or near 25 seasons has been great fun and I love the accumulated data & stats. I get a real kick out of sorting and playing with the stats.

If you own 1 team....you are looking at a daily commitment of 10-15 minutes on average with some days being longer. I play exclusively on my phone so it's my goto "thing" when I have a few minutes to kill.

I've been through 5 versions in those 5 years and each has had its pros & cons. JDB has been doing this coding alone for years with feedback from the 300 or so owners who play the sim.Sim.

I hate to see anyone leave since I plan on sticking around until the end (one way or the other). With that said, if anyone isn't enjoying MFN in any respect that I certainly understand leaving. This Sim isn't for everyone and I would hope they would find something they do enjoy.

For me, I love MFN (warts and all) because it allows me to run a francise completely....from the allocation draft, subsequent drafts, trades, resigning players, free agency, managing the depth chart plus ganeplanning and creating situational rules...I can put my stamp on any team I own and compete, season after season!

I also enjoy the passionate community of owners even though it's a relatively small group. There are definately levels when it comes to owners but luck also plays a factor in the end which does keep things from becoming stale and monotonous. It truly is "any given sunday" despite the fact some owners win a majority of their games.

There is always more any owner can do to become better and it's only limited to the amount of work each owner is willing to put in.

I hope enough owners stick around with me as we all take this Neverending journey with JDB. Like he said, slow and steady because if you want fast, continuous updates....this isn't the game for you.

Just my own thoughts and opinions

CJ

Definitely helps. I really just wanted confirmation that JDB is indeed still invested in MFN long term.

If you want advice from a noobie who likes this game but can never seem to stay, the custom league option is amazing, but the league needing to be 50% full was a struggle to maintain, I had a league with 15-18 of my friend’s from another site but we’d always go under 16 and the league would be dead in a year. The off season/draft (especially the creation draft) taking weeks was probably the thing that did it in. The site operating too slow for us to be able to keep on it killed it. It would be amazing to maybe add the option to speed things up like the draft, the off season, stuff like that. The season being every other day was fine because gameplanning between was great, but just the dragging start/end of season and having to maintain 16 were the biggest reasons my friend’s and I stopped playing.

Maybe even an option to have the creation of teams be auto drafted and you can just start up with cpu drafted teams to start the league would probably be monumental.

I'll start with the second post first. When filling a league you will not want the CPU to autodraft because some or most of those teams will be bad. The CPU, or AI as most call it, is a notoriously bad drafter.

As for the rest, in custom leagues you can reduce the number of free agency sims, or even eliminate them altogether. Same with the number of preseason games.

I was briefly in a league, TPM, where they discussed skipping sims or running training camp immediately after late free agency. I've never done it in my league I run but Legendruthless runs TPM and he could tell you how to skip sims.

I get some of the impatience but it only takes roughly 60 days to run a full calendar year which means you Sim 6 seasons a year.

I could get on board a 30 day season but it would mean trimming midweek Sims and shortening drafts to 1 or 2 days

I do think the important thing to remember is that this is a roster management sim....game days are great but they are the exclamation point on a full off-season and regular season of roster management.

If playing games are the most important thing and all the roster management stuff like the allocation draft, free agency and late free agency are a nuisance then I would recommend Madden.

I would never play in a league where the A.I. auto drafts for me or makes any roster decisions....what's the point then!

I’m not sure if you misunderstood what I said or just flat out didn’t get my point. I’m not saying I want the AI to make roster decisions for me, I’m saying a cpu creation draft to mitigate league creation draft taking weeks to run is something that I’d like to see. Personally, I don’t care if I’m given a bad team and have to grind to build them up. I’m with you, that part of the game is really fun. My favorite part of any football game is the chess match on the field, yes. At the end of the day the results on the field are most important, not who can build the prettiest roster. So no I’m not insinuating that the cpu should handle roster choices for me, and I definitely don’t think “If you don’t like x than you should just go play madden” is a good business model at all. That’s the kind of stuff that makes sites like this lose new people because the old heads arent willing to adapt to any sort of change. I get you like what you like, but having to wait 2-4 or more weeks to fill and start a league is wild. I’ll be gone before the league even starts. But this site has infinite potential and like I said, is massively fun when I’m active and can stick with it.
