At core, isn’t this just really a number and odds game?

I just want to be really clear that i really like pizza, and of course my personal favorite is unquestionable and beyond any doubt, the very best pizza.

Also,, as a fellow Francis - some of y'all need to lighten up.

Ok: IF MFN were to be currently; 28 team leagues with 4x7 teams/division, a 60 man roster, 43 eligible actives... Yadda.
Would you still make the same statement of : "Really, it's a football management sim clearly modeled after the NFL without any NFL license" and continue to choose that hill to stand on?

I don't mean to be an goober, but I would like to know if the game were altered enough to be "un-NFL," would you have the same thoughts about the playability of MFN?

As a follow-up: If MFN were to eliminate the NFL Conference and playoff structure (needs fix blahblah), do you think that would be a positive thing or a negative thing for MFN?

Again, I don't intend to be on the attack if I seem as such. I do want to discuss your thoughts in more detail. I happen to think you have expressed a concern of similarities between MFN and the NFL that warrants a deeper conversation in the community.

Thx in advance for your thoughts.

It's not just the 32 team/2 Conference/8 division setup using all 32 NFL cities that mimics the NFL.

It's also the playoff structure that went from 6 teams to 7 teams when the NFL changed despite remaining a 16 game schedule instead of 17 because that meant a ton of coding to rewrite the automatic schedule maker. JDB has admitted to using the NFL tiebreakers system up to a certain step before settling on net points as the last tiebreaker and he plans on fixing that eventually.

The actual dates for preseason, regular season and postseason mimics the NFL.

It's also the 7 round draft structure based on worst to best record draft order where the draft eligible players come from NCAA colleges.

It's also the 53 man roster with 46 allowed active during a game using a growing salary cap with free agency where only bonus money is guaranteed.

Much to mention we use NFL standards for down, distance, field size etc instead of Canadian rules which rules out the CFL as a template.

So yeah, MFN was designed to mimic the NFL even if JDB cant/won't say so for obvious legal reasons. It's not designed after the CFL, XFL, USFL or a European football league for many reasons even if you can customize team names and locations because the basic structure of the NFL always remains.

However, this statement in no way implies that MFN is an accurate simulation of the NFL when it comes to stats or game play but I would argue that is the ultimate goal for JDB in the end.

If you don't believe MFN was designed to emulate the NFL then you are entitled to that opinion but I will always judge MFN based on how closely it simulates plays, games, seasons and careers in comparison to the NFL and that's my opinion.

Thanks,

CJ

it is certainly clear that the MFN is based off of the NFL structure......but to expect the stats of MFN to mimic those of NFL is a lot to ask is all im saying

MFN is a level playing field and we are on it.......we all search for advantages in order to win as per the spirit of competition......does it really matter if the stats match the NFL?

i understand that there are those who search for realism......maybe someday it will happen. im not opposed to it

not trying to quarrel or claim my opinion is the correct one.....just trying to help others see the game for what it is so maybe they can enjoy it more as opposed to focusing on its flaws e.g. wild stats

I will give you an example where MFN didn't match the NFL and it became the biggest topic in MFN forums across all the leagues.

Remember the punt block exploit???

To paraphrase a majority of complaints about the punt block exploit said punt blocks in the NFL were rare and some teams are blocking 3 to 4 punts per game. It's unrealistic!!!!!

MFN will never be perfect and produce identical stats to the NFL but when we had someone in the USFL get 71 sacks in a season, it felt more like Madden (gag) then a football sim and the play was fixed by JDB.

Like all sims you need a benchmark to compare it to in order to make improvements in the game

No, I don't think mimicking NFL stats is a lot to ask for a football game that models itself after the NFL.

Yes it matters if the stats match, or are at least close. A lot of us originally joined because it's an NFL sim, we love the NFL, and we'd like our game to somewhat resemble it.

"not trying to quarrel or claim my opinion is the correct one.....just trying to help others see the game for what it is so maybe they can enjoy it more as opposed to focusing on its flaws e.g. wild stats"

In other words, you're not trying to claim your opinion is right but you're trying to convince us that it is.

BTW, somewhere along the lines we were asked what we think is wrong with the game/what we want to see fixed. Now that people are answering that question, we have you trying to tell us we shouldn't mention the flaws.

And making disparaging remarks about people dealing with physical incapacities. Kind of a low brow comment tbh. I’ve been there I guess, it’s not flattering though.
