Your team has too many players...

Well, how many days does it take for the game to catch up on this issue? I've brought my team down to 46 in all categories 3 days ago. Hmmmmm...

Also, related, I offered a coach and a player contracts 3 days ago too.

That usually means you're over the roster limit (60 in preseason, 53 in regular season) of players actually under contract, not just active players.

If you're in a draft, the cuts won't happen until after the draft, but once you clear the message it should not reappear.

1. over limit message: thank you, I'll check contract players.
Question: does what is listed on the team page (roster list of players) match, or reflected in the 'Depth' listing page? Because I only look at the 'Roster Depth' page every day when I log in.
(Most convenient view. If I'm in the Team list page I can't see how the game has set up my players 1st or backup, so I stay there for that reason mostly). ?? If not, then that is why I am missing it, as the Roster Depth page may only have 46 players showing (including non active) while the Team page lists 60 players??? Reaching for straws here to understand the game.

2. coach message: thanks, I don't think I've actually clicked the 'x' on the message ever. So will do that.

Yes, the numbers below the bar on the depth chart page is the most comprehensive place to know how many players are on your team and how many of them are active, and it also indicates in red any numbers that you need to pay attention to and adjust.

Ok, those things are the best place to view those on the Depth Chart page....

'but'... are the names listed in the upper section of boxes (representing one box per player) 'all' of the players on the team 'total'.

Or are there some players for what ever reason that are listed on the team page that do not show up on the Dept Chart page?

During the off season you will still have players listed there that may not be under contract up until training camp. These are players that you havnt offered contracts that were on the team the previous season. This can be confusing for new owners joining the game.

I find the best way to find who on your team is under contract is look at the Team Home Page and then edit Filter to Contracts. This will show the actual players under contract and how many seasons they are under contract.

Ahhh... nodding, thanks, Morbid.

Also, question: 2 of my players have (Quest) after their stats. Wondering what does that mean?

I am a Seahawks fan, was way back when in the 80's when we had Curt Warner as a dynamite running back... Steve Largent, etc. Then now again, a fan with the Hawks again.. except for the QB I see a dynasty team with great Def players. Love to watch them.

But now I find that I want to understand Football more, more deeply. That's why I joined this game. I'm here to learn. I only know how to read the general plays on the field for a regular fan. Now I'm going to learn as an owner. A lot to learn here, but I find something confusing right off on the Depth Chart page?:

MLB, Middle Line Backer, my Cornerbacks, right? Kam-Kam Chancellor, Thomas, etc?
SLB???
WLB, wide linebackers? What's this? not FS/SS as they have their own signifiers.

The confusion comes in when I read the Position Distribution drop down box it lists them this way:
MLB
OLB
DB

So, at a loss as to know what each is saying. Any help appreciated. I admit I'm a rank beginner and have a lot to learn. Never played football, was a baseball player, and played Out of the Park Baseball as my baseball manager for years, bought it. :)

And about my last question for now is, when I do have an injured player, should I just grab a FA that's a low level of course, or is this where you grab one of your other players and use them at a different positioin? And if that's the case, can I train them, like as the Seahawks do, draft a DefLineman and train them to be an OLineman?

:)

"Prob" indicates their injury status (from levels of severity Probable, Questionable, Doubtful, Out). You can field a player at any level unless they are out, but the more injured they are the poorer they will perform and the more likely they will incur another injury. The time next to the injury status is the expected time for that player to return to 100%, so if you have a doubtful player with 4 weeks he may get to probable in 2 or 3. This is part of the strategy - to try to have enough depth on your team to be able to survive if some of your key players get injured, and to decide whether to play or sit your injured players. If a player is "Out" you can place him on injured reserve, which means he stays on your roster but doesn't count against the 53 player limit, so you can sign another player. The caveat is that he must sit out the rest of the season.

The positions are broken up into groups because often times a player can move within their position group more effectively than outside it. The groups are:

OL (Offensive Line) = LG (Left Guard), LT (Left Tackle), C (Center), RG (Right Guard), RT (Right Tackle).
LB (Linebackers) = WLB (Weak-side LB), MLB (Middle LB), SLB (Strong-side LB).
DB (defensive backs) = CB (Cornerback), SS (Strong safety), FS (Free safety).
DL (defensive line) = RDE (Right defensive end), DT (Defensive Tackle), LDE (Left defensive end)

So, the position distribution is recommending that you have 7 defensive backs split among cornerback and safeties. It shows some of the position groups in a little bit more granularity (the G, T, and C, for example, as you can move within the offensive line but you are going to be more successful moving a Tackle from one side to the other than moving a tackle to center or guard.

Hope that helps, I'm sure others can pipe in with other thoughts as well.

Wow, no, thanks. That's enough for awhile for me to chew on and to digest. Thanks for laying it out like that, especially the DB's.

And the injury explanations.. wow, I'll definately have to think about who to keep and fill in when injuries occur. It's a good function of the game, realistic as heck too. I know the Seahawks were definately not what they could be (dominant) last year for 4 games when 5 key defensive players were out injured. (the Cowboys beat us one of those games, heh, grins). (sorry, not trying to incite..).

I know with this information and getting a team set up, I'll be busy for 3 seasons just with that. Let alone a long term training scheme of my own or setting the individual player/position stats for development. (for instance I know I'll have my WR's focus more on ball carry, routes, speed and intelligence, rather than on 'yards after the catch', so that will be my own little technique)... and the such on every other position. I can see how this aspect will keep the game really fun for plenty of time for me. Definately will keep it interesting.

Thanks for the info, definately.

Can I ask what does 'Quest' mean, please?
