Private leagues

Are there any private leagues that are run by a GM or something like that? In the first league I joined the team I took over had only made 5 total draft picks in the last 3 seasons and they were all in the 6th and 7th round. This should never have been allowed to happen, and was allowed to happen to inflate the rosters of other players in the league. Are there any private league with any oversight by the players to stop this kind of activity?

Some private leagues have trade committees to veto uneven trades. That doesn't prevent a coach from trading away all of his draft picks, if each individual trade cannot be deemed lopsided.

NCAA 2.0 does not allow any trading whatsoever. Oddly enough, 30 of the 32 original coaches remain and there is little interpersonal conflict and accusatory language. I am wondering if this is the wave of the future for MFN. But that is for another post.

Best thing about NCAA league is the no trading. Eliminates all the drama and makes the draft (highschool signings) so much more fun and meaningful. When the idea was brought up it was met with a lot of different responses but i think it has more than achieved the goal in the final product. It also allows for players to play their careers with the same team for the most part and the league gets to know the player's names. Unfair trades sour a lot of people in leagues so anyone having a problem seeing them i advise starting, or joinging a league without trading :)

Well I hope that's not the future of the game, trading is a big part of football. I think we all know its a game and can't possibly encapsulate all of football in a single program, but I think we all want as much realism as we can get. Having said that, allowing a team to trade all of their picks one year, all but 2 picks the next year, and all but 3 picks the following year is so completely unrealistic. It also artificially inflates other rosters who are benefiting from the roster dump to a degree which disadvantages other teams. If it's allowed fine, I'm only inquiring as to other leagues a little more sensible than that? or is the player pool generally ok with "Madden" like tactics being used?

I'm not really talking so much about individual trades being unfair, that's to subjective. I'm talking about allowing a team to trade away all their draft picks over 3 years and then the owner bails on the team.. that's clearly someone dumping picks to other teams with no intention of building the current team because they are leaving etc.

The majority of bad trades involve draft picks though. I like that the bad teams will always have their high round picks. Makes the league as close to even as you can get. Player evaluation is so subjective that those trades can be unfair on the surface but as long as both owners are happy it should be fine. What you will find though is the experienced owners will know what attributes to look for and can come out on top in a lot of player for player trades thus making the league less balanced. I think trading is a big part of the fun factor in leagues but it's nice to have league where it's different.

I mean I guess if you don't have the ability to remove GM's who habitually "rip" other newer players off then yeah, that would create an imbalance. That's basically what I'm asking, are there leagues with GM's that can remove players from the league at will (obviously under a set of guidelines established for everyone), in order to keep that balance?
