Re: Which player plays!?!

1.
I have 5/6 WR's in my depth chart. How does the game decide which 1/2/3 play each play?
I assumed it would be the top few but it appears not.
Same with the QB - I assumed the top chosen one plays and the other subs in for injury/fatigue?
Quite important as I guess I need to be sure which of my many RB/WR's are actually playing.

2.
Really basic perhaps, but I have 2/3 decent TE's which I've tried to make sure I get the most out of them by using formations which include 1/2 TE's each time. However they don't seem to have been in many plays and barely done anything (yardage etc) :(

3. One more thing: My new team in MFN74 has a WestCoast Offense minded HC; I've been told that the diff being they play many short passes etc. Comparing my playbook there to here (HC is Generally mixed) the new guy has 24 Long Pass plays compared to old guy having 27 Long Pass plays. Not much difference there?!?

1. If it is the preseason the game is going to put the backups in for Wide Receivers so I would imagine it will be 3 thru 6 will be on the field.

If it is the regular season then I think the game decides on the basis of what plays are called to which WRS are in the game.

2. on this one look for plays that have the TE running the distance marked on the play (short routes for short pass plays, medium routes for medium pass plays, and long routes for long pass plays).
You can also put the TE into the WR spot in some formation overrides to get him more touches.

basically by doing those your TEs should be in more plays and get more touches.

3. on this one I would guess it depends on the circumstance to what the coach will do.
Like on short yardage the WC is going to go to the curls/hooks that give them the yards they need .
different coach would probably get more yards than they need like if they need 2 yards they would use a play to get 7+ yards.

What you are thinking for 1. does apply, the thing is that those top guys get fatigued and sit out some plays which makes that look a bit off.

could you clarify this part a little further: what plays are called to which WRs are in the game?! Surely I want my best ones in the game each time?

2. on this one look for plays that have the TE running the distance marked on the play (short routes for short pass plays, medium routes for medium pass plays, and long routes for long pass plays). They all seem to do that (or at least the 1st bunch of plays I checked! E.G. Ins & Outs Short pass play, the TE both run 5yds then dart sideways etc
You can also put the TE into the WR spot in some formation overrides to get him more touches. see next question below!

Actually in the NFL your star players will typically play almost every down with the exception of a couple positions (such as RB).

Question 4:

I've never explored the Overide buttons on the Depth chart:

a) Why do some of them only show 10 players yet there should be 11 right?!
b) What does the '21 Personnel' bit mean after each one?!
c) Should I be using this regularly in terms of thinking 'If I'm playing this system I actually want X playing there instead of Y'? - if so, this might be something for next season for me! :O
d) It's a real shame that there isn't a link/filter to allow me to compare the Off Plays and Def Plays to the formations; for instance I have no idea which of my Def Plays uses the Nickel Blitz etc.

Ah, I've checked the Help Rules section and cross-referenced with my players. The ones who have played the most plays generally have the highest Condition rating! Bingo - that light-bulb moment! Some must naturally have slightly higher than others - great stuff! :)

21 is 2 rb's and 1 tightend, 12 is 1 rb and 2 TE, etc

Also remember for TEs, just because they are in doesn't mean they are a receiving option. They are blockers too. For instance in the Possession Offense playbook, TE1 is a pass blocker on almost 20% of the passing plays that he's on the field for. So if you really want to feed him the ball, you need to pick plays where he's not a blocker in addition to the suggestion that was given earlier of using overrides to sub him as a WR sometimes.
