I just tried to explain why teams with great players can afford to pursue all those players in the FA market. The cap can be manipulated when resigning your own players. We need a stricter hard over all contract along with the signing bonus when renegotiating contracts

As far as signing vets to high bonus and contracts as FA, it does come at a cost at times. I did this last season in MFN-1 as I wanted to make a push for a title and it worked, however I had 10 players retire on me and left me with over 50 mil in dead space for next season with a chance of 4-8 more players retiring this season.

Some vet FA's should take a Contender over money sometimes. Other players shouldn't resign with your team if they are going to remain in a backup role. I think the contracts should be set in stone and fair. Overall I think you shouldn't be able to afford 3 good(90+rating) players in the same position.

I agree with you but as long as there is a way to bypass the high resigning contracts I will do so.

With all the salary and free agent talk you might have to think about franchise tags and what's it called, i'm having a brain fart, when you allow a player to test the free market but have the chance to match offers from other teams to that player. Restricted free agents, ****, I knew i'd remember that!

Isnt the player a Restricted FA until he reaches so many seasons in league? I am not exactly sure how this works in the NFL actually. I thought it was after their Rookie Contract was up but again not sure

The Franchise tag is ok if all want to go that route but I believe I can sign a player for less then what the Franchise tag would be. This might work for older players because with younger players that you have a chance to lock up before FA you can do so much cheaper.

A player with three years whom has received a qualifying offer from a team in the NFL is a restricted free agent. It doesn't really apply to first round picks anymore because of the CBA from a few years ago that adds a fifth year option to first round picks.

As long as this wouldnt be separate from the regular FA period, I dont want to add a couple more days on the off season just for this

I haven't done RFA's mainly because of the complexity it adds and requires a bigger understanding of how it works and there are some ways I've seen this exploited in other football sims. Not that I won't consider it in the future but my priority would be to make sure you understand how it works and that there is not any exploitation holes. The franchise tag has also been left off for simplicity but I'm more inclined to add that.

I like the franchising/RFA idea based solely on cap usage. That's the one element of this game that drives me crazy. There are some teams that dominate year end and out plus they have around 50 million in cap space (depending on the league you are in) and still able to sign players to max contracts. I think if other teams can offer a contract on a player increasing their value, that would "force the hand" of these power teams and maybe create some parity.

On the other hand something then would have to be fixed so that teams can't sign team friendly deals when there are 1 or 2 years left on a players contract. Maybe allow players to reject contracts so they can test FA more?

I dunno .. just my 2 cents
