I just noticed something else....possibly intended , but in 87 when I search speed under players while looking at the FAs.....I ended up searching the speed they were assigned under the old visual. It's fun to see the changes form the card to the old way at a glance, but I think this was unintended . .. |

I'm seeing O-linemen with faster speed than RB's, DB's and WR's.
Is a 80 O-linemen faster than a 79 WR? |

Heres a couple from the 1st page of the Draft Class. There's more deeper into the pages. I'll try to find some RL times by positions and post em here. I can also pull down the csv file and go through that data and create some sort of comparison if that would help.

This makes sense to me. There were always DL and OL with high speed before, and there we always slow skill position players. I'm sure you can find real NFL lineman with faster 40 times than the slower skill position players. It should be rarer though, which is why I'd still love to see skill position players with a minimum of 50 speed.

I pulled down some really good info on SBnation.com with 2013 40 times.

But I used their NFL times and put em into a spread shed to sort em by position and then by times. Here's the fastest and slowest times of the groups posted in that article. Great info there. OL Lane Johnson ran an "official" 4.72 40 at the combine: http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/lane-johnson?id=2539286
He was hand timed as low as 4.59, which would have made him faster than most of the RBs from that draft class. In general, I would like to see the SP rating signify a player's SP over 100 yards starting at 100% fatigue and then accounting for fatigue loss during the run. A 300 pound person is going to fatigue a lot faster than a 180 pound person when both are in top physical condition. It's just how biomechanics work. |
