Broke down my game. Pretty good overall. My notes:

This is the only play that really concerned me. CB is a decent rookie, but the WR is a terrible rookie. CB gets juked and is so badly beat it goes for a long gain. Doesn't seem like that big of a skill disparity should allow that to happen. https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/watch/8005#1452317

I noticed basically zero pressure on the QBs when the starters were in. I have two stud DEs, so I'd expect a little something. Saw more pressure later when backups with terrible pass block were in.

Wow. Passing in Beta-87 is just awful.

The preseason games that I've skimmed through really show how the passing game only "worked" before because of the glitches that prevented the defense from defending.

My teams and qbs stink so it's hard to tell anything, but I see 29 accuracy qbs putting up better numbers than 92 accuracy qbs That's ok , low in the value of accuracy .

In total my games combined for both teams average around 7 interceptions a game. QB ratings are very bad. Both my sub 70 qbs or my opponents qbs in the 90s .

Can't stand the wide open drops. When the qb/wr just misses a what looks like a catchable ball. That should happen maybe 10 percent of time. Perhaps it out of reach but it doesn't look so.

But what I do like is punt returns . I might actually have a desire to overide my ST positions . I saw two returns go for like 30 yards!

29 is pretty low for a QB to have a really good game, but I'm hoping the reason for this observation is something in the following list:

* Short passing should be substantially more effective than long passing, even for high accuracy QBs. If a game plan is heavy long pass you should see low completion percentage, whereas if it's heavy short pass you should see high completion percentage.

* High accuracy + bad OL should outperform low accuracy + good OL (although 29 accuracy probably should be low enough that this isn't causing the issue)

* Maybe the 29 accuracy QB has better WRs and was playing against a poor defense.

I am pushing the short curl route a bit further down the field tonight to see if that helps.

Garza has some good wrs and it is preseason as he is the qb 2 . So he might be playing bad defenses.

Ok, one more change I'm making - one of the issues I'm trying to fix is the long passing game, and I think that's why you're seeing a lot of drops. Those passes tend to be either incomplete or a home run. I'm adding a 'diving catch' state (something I've been wanting to do for a long time) that will basically give the DB a chance to catch the WR before he gets up and starts running again. This should increase the overall completion rate without significantly increasing the power of the long pass.

I'd like to know how the long pass game plans behave with this update, is anyone still playing with that gameplan?

If it isn't already, I'd have the probability of it triggering tied to the depth of the pass. It feels the most appropriate on the deeper passes. I'd also suggest that it's not always called a diving catch. In my head, it was more that the WR had to slow or adjust his stride to make the catch. I see three possible outcomes during a completed reception:
1) QB hits WR perfectly in stride. 50%
2) WR has to slow or adjust to make the catch. 40%
3) WR has to dive to make the catch. 10%
Obviously, the percentages should be tied to skills.

I really like the concept of what you've done with the diving catch and the feeling it provided. Just needs some more polish.


Other notes
Quick comebacks just still feel broken. https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/watch/8021#1455127 I was happy this was incomplete even though there was little reason for it to be, because I don't want a completion 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage.

It still feels like when DBs get beat by a move, that gaps the WRs open are too big. A great move by the WR should get them a step or two, not 5+ yards of separation. https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/watch/8021#1455094 This is a terrible defensive call because the CB1 blitzes, leaving his man wide open. QB hits him perfectly and the new diving catch is triggered. Slows the WR enough that defenders could get to him for the tackle after a few more yards. It's hard to know if that needed to be a diving catch given how wide open he was and the skill level of the QB and WR. But it didn't feel wrong seeing it live.

The deep safety only has 55 zone coverage in the first example, so it's understandable that he went away from the open WR initially and didn't get there in time to make the play. Here's the same play matchups, but with an elite Safety covering that side of the field. Week 2 preseason I felt passing was overpowered a little. My guys went 23/24. Perhaps they got the rolls this week vs. Some technical but slow DBs and this 50 route runner left my 99 man cb in the dust. Still, that same cb picked off three passes .
