Re: Passing Issues

Pit-Clev my QB was as bad as usual, completing 50% of his passes with 2 ints, and Baltimore's was dismal, 9 of 31 with 2 ints.

What I think is happening now is that it's at the very least 2/3s (it actually feels more like closer to 100%, except for drops) up to the QB whether a pass is complete or not and QBs passes are all over the place, sometimes they miss by 20 yards and it looks bad, like a crazy roulette game. For aesthetic reasons, I think misses should always be close to the intended receiver.

But what I think really needs to happen is that the importance of coverage should go up compared to QB accuracy, even as the latter goes up, so that incompletes are, say, 50% about defensive competence, because right now, I'm not sure what the role of the defense is except to run around and hope the QB is inaccurate enough. Can't sack him, can't break up passes. Now, this defensive coverage "bonus" -or close coverage along with the ability to break up passes- should be much higher the farther downfield the receivers are, so that shorter passes are more easily completed.

Easier said than done, but that's what I think should happen.

I was just to post another observation when I read this post.

In the test league tipped, batted, blocked ***** were a significant part of the game, that's all but vanished.

I see that the changes I made didn't have the desired effect ... playing with some other changes now.

As for the tipped ***** and the defense, nothing has changed in that regard from the test league, so I'm not sure why knockdowns seem to be reduced. The only thing I can think of is something with the difference of player attributes here than we had in the test league.

You mean a better talent base?

Yeah, and a greater disparity between the best and worst starters.

11/40 for my QB

What data do you have for each pass attempt? Would it be possible to get a spray chart of some sort? Perhaps with a halo or something showing how many yards off an inaccurate throw was? If you do have that data and wouldn't mind making it available I'd be happy to try to put together what I am talking about.

I started a rather lengthy and technical reply and then decided not to bore everyone with it, sent a PM instead.

ever since the changes were made, my team has been complete garbage. My QB is something like 30/130 the last three games. He was doing above decent before.

Wow, he's going to be a good QB once he's fully developed but that accuracy bar is really low right now ... I wonder if you might be better off playing the rookie since your 2nd year QB is so raw.

To the end of the recent changes, there should be no case where the QB's accuracy is worse than it was before, in fact your QB should have gotten a pretty large boost from the changes. I'll have to watch your games and look at the logs and see if I can see something that's not behaving as expected, or if it's just a string of really bad luck.
