Week 12 updates

Here are a few tweaks for tonight's games:

* The issue where the LB turns and runs away from the RB should be fixed
* I hope I have a fix in to solve the player covering the blocking fullback from just standing there
* I'm trying out penalizing doing lots of 2-or-more blitzers.
* I also greatly reduced the defensive penalty if the offense is not in a 1-WR or 2-WR formation (which can cause the defense to go into a personnel package that they don't have a lot of plays for). I had this already but this time I'm actually capping its influence instead of reducing it.

I'm really not sure what the Spy wanted to do on the field or would have done if the QB reached the LOS, so he may be behaving as expected.

MLB sprints away from the RB on this play like he doesn't want to get in the way: https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/5914#1064394 (This guy may have been dropping into "coverage", but he starts sprinting away after the RB has the ball.)

I can't tell if this is a glitch with zone protection or a bad read by the defense. I'm running 3-Deep Man on this, so the CB1 should fall back to the deep zone and the SS should be playing middle zone on the left hash. The offense is running the 113 HB Flare, and the outside WR runs the go. The CB1 drops into his zone and picks up the WR, which is good. The SS comes up into his zone. When the RB crosses the LOS, both the CB1 and SS come up cover the RB leaving the WR running the go route to go free. Fortunately, the SS grows wings and flies up to knock away a sure 80 yard TD: https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/5914#1064337

Seems like the CB1 should have stayed with the outside WR going deep and the RB should have been picked up by the LB covering the hook zone. I could see the SS coming up to the LB's spot or staying put. I don't know why he would ever come up to cover the RB on this play.

This one is more egregious. The CB2 drops back into his deep zone. He covers the WR that enters his zone until the WR breaks the edge of the zone area, then the CB retreats to the center of the zone allowing the WR to go free behind him. The safety is no help because the safety is playing as deep as the CB and doesn't turn to pursue: https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/5914#1064444

The CB is the deepest man back on that side of the field. He doesn't leave the WR until he hands him off to the safety. If the safety doesn't come, he stays with his man.

Watch #91 on this play. He starts off by blitzing the QB, but suddenly pulls up and moves like he's going to cover the TE running the drag route. Except the LB is now on the QB side of the LOS, so he's trying to cover the player running on the other side of the OL: https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/5930#1067234

That looks like he bit on the play action fake. Defense was in run key (which increases the probability that they will bite on the PA), and the play was a play action pass.

The CB2 doesn't drop into his zone, which lets the outside WR get behind him on this play. This really should be a long TD. It's a pretty good example of the problems with zone coverage and WRs catch attribute. New observation. Linebackers may be overpowered against OL. When you made the change to DL so that they can't use SP to *** rush OL, I don't think anything was done to LBs to make it so that they couldn't either. Watch this play. The LB that muscles through this triple team has 77 SP, 86 AC, 46 ST, and 12 Pass Rush. That's right, he's a pass rushing fool who ends the game with 4 sacks just like this: https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/5937#1068528

Play familiarity needs to be turned off or the play calling matrix actually needs to work. I have 7 separate nickle defensive plays that my team has equal probability of calling on 1-10, and instead, we called the same defensive play repeatedly. Play familiarity right now is more of a hinderance to teams that try to mix up offensive and defensive play calls than it actually prevents teams from spamming plays. I'd rather live with spamming then have to gamble that the playing calling matrix will work.

On this play the defense was in a zone and the CB released the WR deep as CB's do in zones. The Safety came up to cover the TE coming across the middle as they do at times even in RL. So that left the WR open deep. I think thats something that we witness on sundays all the time.[/quote]

Unless this is a one time deal, this defensive play looks broken to me. Defense is in a quarter 3 deep zone under and the CB #49 blew his assignment. He has a 43 intel maybe that played a factor idk. It looked like he was coming up to cover the wrong zone.[/quote]

On this one the defense was in a 3-3-5 nickle 3 deep zone under - run key. The CB released the WR as he should but the Safety #20 came up to cover a WR #84 who was open crossing the middle of the field. The Safety's intel is a 41 but after looking at that plays diagram that safety is covering a very shallow and small zone. To me that safety should have a little wider and deeper zone responsibility. The LB #91 was too deep in his zone responsibility as well i thought. He has a 73 intel so that should be the issue for him.

I don't see a problem with this play. The LB got thru on a blitz unblocked. The results description didn't assign blame to the sack which i thought meant he came thru unblocked.


How much is intel having an effect in coverages? It looks like the (nickle 3-3-5 3 deep zone under) coverage could be adjusted for sure. I know there is a lot of variables as to what plays the coaches actually call, but sometimes it looks like the same plays are called 3 times in a row. Are you guys seeing this as well? I have all 40 offensive and 30 defensive plays checked but some haven't been called all season. I went 3 games with the defensive GP 33-33-34 to see if all the plays would be called.

It would be kool if coaches had a intel rating (which would affect good or bad play calling). Along with a clock management rating, personality rating, organizational rating (that would affect practices and scouting effectiveness) and likability which could sway players to re-sign with a team or not in a small way depending on his personality.

I know it's easy to come up with ideas and wish for things when we don't have to apply them. jdb your our frickin Santa Claus eh. lol
