Stats display

I feel like with a web based game there's a lot more that could be done with stats - see ben's stuff for FOF as an example.

But, at minimum, could we get team names listed on the stats leaders page?

A lot of that is in the works I can say. During the alpha / beta there was a far stronger focus on getting the game engine and game presentation ready, as your nag of a brother will tell you ;). The interface is already in its second iteration and will see quite a few improvements in the near future.

hrrmmm.. Trying not to bring up the straight up interface problems because I got the brush off last time, but this one request seems pretty basic.

But since you brought it up, I know there are a number of people that would be very good for feedback on this game that are incredibly turned off by the numerous interface problems and decisions.

That's exactly the reason we're all here, to give our thoughts/opinions and to contribute to the game's development and improvement.

I'm not going to speak for Jon but I will say that Firefly and I have been playing this game and submitting bug reports for what is close to approaching a year. In that time I can't recall a single time where a feature request was rejected outright, maybe delayed for a little bit.

Keep in mind that feedback is coming in from a lot more users now and I'm sure you understand that not forming a plan before moving forward would only make things worse. Give it a little time, and in the meantime try to enjoy what is already a considerable achievement and only getting better.

What gives us the impression of a "brush off" are comments like this:

This is really a "soft launch" to evaluate how well the system performs with a large number of users. I mainly just want everyone to play the game so I can see what kind of server resources I might need to allocate when I start launching more leagues. Unless there are some glaring issues that are exposed over the next month and a half, my plan is to do a full public launch near the end of July.

If you do experience any issues, please post in the "help" form.

Feel free to discuss feature requests as well, I don't plan to expand the feature set before the launch but do have a large array of plans. The "beta" tag will probably remain for a while until I get through most of the features I want to install and the game has been running stable for a while.

I know Jon has talked to some people, including myself, about additional feedback privately. However, the only thing I have seen in writing are things like the above which says "eh, its fine, no need to change anything" (unless its a game engine issue).

Please take the criticism/concern as us caring. We want this to be a quality, successful game. If we didn't care, we would just walk away and not say anything.

It was made very clear in the beta that my feedback on the interface was not welcome.

If the interface is bad, it doesn't matter how good the engine is - people won't play.

Sorry to be harsh, but its the truth. I want this game to be good, I really do. But it's tough when my major concerns are brushed off.

I don't want to get into the other conversation. I just wanted to post that I too would like to see Teams listed in the league stats. I'd thought of posting that myself the other day and got busy and forgot about it until just now. then I saw this thread.

not expecting it anytime soon but it really does make sense to have the team name listed by said player when looking at league leaders.

My experience is that JD is always open to suggestions. That doesn't mean he has to listen to them, of course, but as it happens he very often does. I can say the interface has changed a lot, and I feel that my feedback on the subject got plenty of attention.

I don't see the brushing off in those comments, either. JD knows he's got a lot of work to do yet and is trying to do as much as possible as fast as possible, but he's got a lot on his plate. I wouldn't take it too personal if he can't fix something right away or if he chooses to keep it as is for the time being.

Unfortunately I don't know how to get to the messages from beta, but I promise I got a legit brushoff.

Anyway. When feedback is welcome for the interface/design, let me know - because I have a lot of feedback.
