Re: Zone coverage updates

This happened early... my elite CB jumped the wrong zone and left the deep third open. My fault for running a slow SS in man, but I though he would get help over the top.

This was the only one I saw as play abuse favored the rest of the game. Racked up like 14 knockdowns....not bad as my opponent threw deep and I covered deep with zone/ man schemes. Alot of variables in this one.

I noticed several other zone problems this game that are related and functioned the same way. When elite, and I mean 100s in zone coverage, cover guys just flat out run the wrong way.

I am going to go back to real football rules to pinpoint coverage errors.....First step is aways back and read. Not miss read and run the wrong way. Even if it were a run key you should just sit and read.

Even better yet please tell me and others your decision process in deciding what a player should do for coverage. Both man and zone. I have been hinting at looking at the wr/db mechanics for a while, but that plan has seemed to disappear the more I hinted.

I feel that passing was ok before and coverage was broke. Now both are broke. My star QB had 20 yard at halftime. I would have been better off starting my RB4 at QB. As my opponent QB had no trouble handling an elite defense with everything except QB ability. That is VERY disappointing to have to even see that. What was worse was to see my elite CB get caught over on EVER pass that came his way. Well except that coverage he blew to lose the playoff game. A 96 rated player playing like a 69 rated one. This has been his whole career. Boring to say the least.

This is not about the time it will take to fix...this is about what was coded in the first place, and I see nothing changing for the good of passing until some if not all coverage algorithms are rewrote.

I could find probably over a dozen in our game alone, but do not know if they were intended or not cause very little on coverage is ever spoke about. We all know what the QB is doing with the ball....we know the line men....we know lbs read are broke. Please, please elaborate generously ( paragraphs ) on your choice of what these guys are supposed to do. Both man and zone. Touch on alignment and post snap decisions that drive where an elite guys should go.

You might as well, seeing how you move TE's to WR, then play them in every position except WR.......

I also did it to every online men and . ...they are all centers, because centers are the lightest and when being lighter makes you move faster in to correct position to make a block. Or avoid a block that's why I moved every defender "down " a position also.

Same goes for QB , but in this case not to lose QBS ratings I left my RB4 at QB, but if he can't cut it next year at QB I will move him to WR only because he will be lighter and faster in order to maximize his elite speed I the running game.

It is funny my TE was a 1st round AI bust that is best suited at RB or FB, but under this new code he blew it up for almost 1000 yards playing out of the TE. At 220 pounds and 53 run blocking one would think the running game might suffer, especially with only 6 undersized centers for an offensive line. Yet we ran our best ever.....IDK

As size begins to matter more for strength vs strength match ups that is when I will change them back, but as smaller is faster why would you want a larger player? Oh yeah, because that matters in real football.

This happened numerous times with an elite CB again and again. My play call counts are all below eight despite the overuse warning which should be reserved for blitzes only. Or just scrap that whole thing. Only because the passes is see converted are to covered WRs (with the penalty) and when they are wide open it is a drop.

All visually disturbing and could be explained by the pass being just out of the reach, but this zone play was a bit laughable. My Safety was the only one playing the end game hail Mary defense a good 40 yards deep for no reason .

There were two this game. He should have the deep third.

This makes me wonder if I should go back and check all of my 3-Deep Man calls. If the CB is bailing on his zone that could provide another reason why my pass defense is getting gouged.

That's a breaking issue that I'll fix before the next game. Please continue to post them as you see them, if we still have them in week 16 then I'll hold off on 0.4.1 until we at least start the next season.

I found a clear bug with zone coverage that appears to be easily correctable.

1) https://nfl.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/236#42349
a) Watch the CB on the top of the screen. He's going to drop into his zone and shadow the WR running the route perfectly. As soon as the ball is in the air, he turns away from the WR and starts running parallel to the WR's route. That is he's not shadowing anymore, he is literally doing what the WR is doing. He should be coming up across the WR's face since he has a step and making a play on the WR or the ball, but he's happily running at this point without a care in the world. A frolic even. In fact, even if he just holds position and doesn't turn and run parallel, he's in the perfect spot to make a play on the ball.

Why does he contort his body to run away from the pass when he's already in position?

Updated link.
