Re: [Code Update] Line play/blocking update, player 'frame'

I have pushed an update to the beta leagues that is intended to tip the blocking scales a bit back in the direction of the skills and slightly away from speed/size/strength. This will begin with any games starting tonight.

Also, I've added 'frame' logic to the players to make it more difficult to move a player away from their natural frame's weight. I initialized all of the existing players to have a frame at where their current weight is. I will probably add the ability to manually assign your goal weight on a per-player basis to override the default from their position fairly soon.

If/when you roll frame out to all league, you may want to initialize frame based on a players current position, not their current weight. Most owners probably have a few players that are in the process of progressing to the right weight - we wouldn't have carried those players for the many seasons it takes if we knew it wasn't possible.

Does frame include height? I played in a game recently where my DL knocked down a lot of passes at the line, and then I noticed my opponent's QB was 6'0".

Height has always come into play with the launch vector of the QB passing the ball as well as a defender's ability to knock it down - in theory that should increase DL knock-downs for shorter QB's.

Can you add height to the attribute weights when you add weight then?

Initial impression is to revert this code change. I have a decent-to-great pass blocking OL. I had given up 14 total sacks through 8 games. I gave up 6 in the last game.

The score looked pretty balanced up in to the half..

So I checked the log after that and noted a lot of pressure from linebackers and a sack by an end vs. Zone coverage , but the most glaring thing was he called pass keys for every down. Also, is England s 14 scrambling skill.

Playing Dallas s myers , another slower qb I noticed pressure by my smaller ends. Also , I think general pressure could have caused more ints.

Like back in the playoffs 2 seasons ago ....we are In disagreement here. I lost that game vs. You and this time you lost .....while I won.

Running is what I want to look at right now......it still seems over powered as LBS were blown right out of the play . Still it seemed linemen were a bit better vs. The run.

I think pass blocking was a bit better. Blitz picks up and overall quick reads are the real problem

Also, I think running was a bit better , but LBS , who don't blitz , are useless...same old same old . Run keys could help, but I noticed my opponent running alot on second down. I play majority neutral there.....with a small chance of both run or pass key.

Still, my 37 run block tackle allowed many short gains to his side vs. A more technical DE. I thought that was ok. And my dline is only ok so them getting shredded was expected .

I swear blitz pick ups were better, but that is purely an observation with no documentaion. But to see your poor scramble qb get sacked alot vs the blitz makes me question it all, cause that rating has alot to do with how often the QB decides to redistribute the pressure circle.

As I saw my qb play much worse.....but my plan is easy to key on . Still, worse being lower completion percentage and ints . Only average intelligence and scramble are his weak spots, but the choice of his recievers was quite horrid. The wide open underneath patterns were ignored all day, but forcing bombs resulted in 500 yards passing , but the killer was a 6 foot 4 legit deep threat torching a 60 speed 12 year veteran on two or three wide open bombs.

I'm looking at the game log, I only see 2 of those sacks have a 'sack allowed' attribution which would be the only sacks that this change would have effected.

The same update applied to the run game, in both cases technique should play a stronger role in the interchange.

Thanks for the analysis, Ray! Please keep the feedback coming.

Here is a practical case, to better understand how this will affect the game and the players.

What will be the consequences for my 100 spd, 87/99 pass rush LB turned DE, weighting 250 ? He is useless rignht now as a DE (i drafted him to have a great pass rusher).
