Where in Depth Chart?

By Black Adder

When you watch the game in Gameview and see the Opposition WR`s making catches it would be great if when you clicked on their card, their position in the depth chart was stated (as it is on your own player cards) .
This would tell you who is covering (or not) that WR (WR1 is covered by CB1 etc) and so you could make personnel or gameplan changes next game.

I've gone back and forth regarding showing the depth chart of other teams. The reason I decided not to is because someone might set up their game plan in anticipation of their opponent's depth chart before the opponent made changes to it that would mess up the game plan. I'd be curious to hear you guys' comments on that line of thought now that the game has been going for a while, if it's determined that it wouldn't mess up the opposition, I've wanted to see this info as well and would be happy to add it to the cards.

When I watch Gameview after a few plays by the Opp Offence I click on the QB,RB and WR`s cards to have them around the outside edges of the screen. This is so I can see the players I`m playing against as the game evolves.

This really adds to the imerssion factor for me and to have who is WR1,WR2 etc would really add to that.

I like the idea of having it as an addition to the Gameview, but maybe not outside of that.

During the course of a game, a good coaching staff should be able to start narrowing down on who's in what role in what sets, so I don't think it would break the game. Plus after the fact, teams always break down tape and can further refine their own internal 'scouting' depth chart. But does that necessarily mean that's what you'll see next time?

As Black Adder said, it would add an interesting bit of immersion, especially to the division games; will the setup be the same facing a division rival at the beginning of the year as it would near season's end with playoffs on the line? Or do you wind up getting burned by a hotshot WR they had buried in their roster that can go toe-to-toe with your stud secondary?

Just my 1/50th of a dollar.

I have a comment and a question about this.

First, the depth could be different from play to play, depending on if there are any overrides set. Also, if I knew someone may be looking at my depth chart, I could have my #1 WR listed 5th, but then make him the #1 in every formation using the overrides.

Second, and I may be a little naive about this, but how would knowing someone's depth chart actually help me? What would I be able to do with that information? Just curious.

Thanks

That's a good point

The types of things I was thinking of is adjusting your DL based on the strengths and weaknesses of your opponent's OL, and then the opponent changing his depth chart at the last minute, or making the kind of situation where you are trying to be the last one to change your depth chart before the sim. The point about the overrides actually makes this less of an issue.

I don't really think it matters much and it would bolster the pre-game experience. Like "oh my god, how do we stop this guy??" I doubt gameplanning would help much, but if it does, why not.

Speaking of other teams, to hijack the thread a bit, what I would like to see myself is a page with everyone's cap status. It would be helpful but also fun to see who's in trouble, who's doing great, how you're doing compared to the rest, etc.

I've turned it on for MFN-1.

Oh, and the salary cap view is on the TODO list, I'll move it out of the depths and see if I can't get that page in sooner rather than later.

JDB,

I thought I read somewhere that the QB progression starts by looking for WR#1 on a given pass play.Does the QB actually look at who ever is playing at position WR#1 on that specific play first even if it`s not WR#1 due to Overrides or does he "find" WR#1 even if he`s lined up in say WR#3`s spot on the called pass play?

Hope that makes sense.

BTW for me seeing the Opp players positions this week really added to the Gameview experience,I could see my secondary receivers (TE`s,RB`s and FB) could really make a difference and that`s how it kinda panned out.

Thank you.

For each play, the players who line up at the #1 WR, #2 WR, #1 TE, #1 RB, #3 WR, etc. are each given a probability weight for being the target. Also taken into consideration is the depth of their route vs. the depth of the play call. Then the read progression is chosen randomly using those weights. So the #1 WR (that is, the player in the #1 WR slot, which would be the #2 WR if you changed it via overrides) should receive more first looks than the player in the #2 WR slot, and so on, in decreasing order.
