September 2024 Update

By jdavidbakr - Site Admin

Hello, and welcome to September!

I've just updated the Preview site with the following:

Bug Fixes:

MFN-304 Playoff names are showing as json on home page
MFN-305 League awards are broken
MFN-306 Scouting broken if opponent doesn't have a head coach

In this update also includes the first part of the draft war room! In this release you can manage your preferences and of course view the draft. It doesn't update when the draft pick fires, for that you'll need to refresh the page (this is because the legacy site is still driving the draft picks for now).

I'm also releasing an update today that adds a link on the legacy site to go to the preview site.

Thanks again, everyone!

Just watched my first game in the new interface. I like it! Just a couple small things, and they're probably just me. In the speed dropdown 1x seems really slow, but 1.5x seems really fast. Is it possible to add a 1.25x?

At the end of each play the stat highlights that show who just made the catch, tackle or run, etc. seems to highlights the entire section and not just the single player. Not a huge deal, but makes scanning results a little difficult. Also, the players aren't sorted by the number of yards or number of tackles very well.

Looking good though. It's good to see it coming along.

Just curious. But do the website updates matter if there are only going to be 32 to 40 users left in the game?

Looking over the leagues, there are only a few full or close to full now.

Almost no leagues use league rules for rosters anymore to try and make the game competitive and default position weight.

And literally nothing has been done in 3 years to restore competitive balance, scoring, or fun to the game.

seems the idea is to improve interface in order to draw in more players, especilly those who use mobile devices

i do agree with you...... snails pace here with improvements and people arent buying it. introducing the subscription model was an odd choice considering the game is under construction. i was happy with the "donating" feel i had when purchasing credits in the before times. being charged for a subscription for an incomplete game is something i will never be interested in

the glaring flaw in MFN that i dont see many people mention is the automatic decisions made by unowned teams (i refuse to call it "ai" because it doesnt seem to me that ai is being used here, just faulty programming)

i admin two leagues. one is doing well (ued to be 100% but now am happy with 5 vacancies) while other was doing well until subscription introduction led to an exodus which left nine owners. in both leagues i must babysit the unowned teams and fix their mistakes. horrible contracts, trash draft picks and not putting players into depth charts are the first off top. there are times when an unowned team puts itself into negative cap then i must go in to fix it or else their best player is released and i have to tell everyone not to sign them off waiver wire so i can get the player back onto the team. this task is compounded by the vacancies

if unowned teams in MFN made better automatic decisions it wouldnt matter how many owners there were. of course it is more fun with actual people who can corrospond. however, if the unowned teams made better decisions, were able to participate in trades and were able to remain competitive, it wouldnt matter as much if teams were owned or not

TL:DR the biggest fix MFN needs is "AI" improvement. unowned teams should be able to remain competitive on thier own

There are things that jdb could do right now to improve competitive balance.

1. Institute player weight caps so programmatically players can't play below weight for a position. Make it customizable for custom leagues.

2. Reduce fumbles.

3. Remove the catch penalty for passes over 10 yards.

4. Programmatically reduce the acceleration for defensive lineman and increase it for WRs so that WRs actually get off the ball faster than a DE that is 100 pounds heavier.

Those four things being back scoring and balance.

"Now that you are finally doing something, why are you doing it?"

Seth - As much as you have contributed, every bit of it comes from a negative. JDB is finally going all in and it's still not good enough for you. As much as your deconstruction of everything negative about MFN has helped the community, everything has come from the negative.
Now that JDB is ***** deep, you are questioning his efforts.

JDB is efforting all of this in part, because of you.
...and them, and us, and every single person that has stuck around.

Again: your contributions are unmeasurable. Greatly significant. Every bit of it has come from what you see wrong, and not any of it has ever looked into what is right about MFN.

I absolutely respect your experience and your contributions.

It would be neat to see what you could do with all that talent if you picked apart items because of why they worked, and not why they do not.

When the path is forward, it's unfortunate that some who have taken so much effort for change to be made would then question why bother with changing at all when actual change finally comes.

I really hope my statements of wanting you to use all of your ability and community significance in a more positive way, and to encourage you to look into what and why plays and game planning do work does not seem to be cross, as it comes from a place of recognition of your contributions.
I'm certainly not cross with you. I'm grateful for all you've done. My suggestion is perhaps your inspiration could come from a more positive perspective.

All my encouragement to all your endeavors, regardless of my opinions I'm appreciative of all youve done for MFN.

Lastly, having just gone through a week of a player telling me they hate me and want to kill me, will hunt me down and shoot me and then suggesting that I kill myself multiple times might be the actual f-rucking issue.

You're in that league. I got pix. It was definitely not you, it was 29candrews, but you saw that poo-poo, as did 27 other GMs.
Not one other GM stood up and said it was wrong for 29candrews to make death threats and encourage suicide - including you setherick - but MV - the admin.

Much respect to MV.
so, so much respect.

What the F is wrong with the rest of you?
I'll post chat pix if I need to.

THE biggest problem in MFN is it's very toxic community.

stop the hate. all of it.

weird

biggest issue i see with "AI" is when teams dish out a 6 year contract with a lot of bonus for a player with two good years left maybe......100% chance of preventable dead cap

these players tend to have high trade scores. if the "AI" decisions are being based off of trade scores then the trade score gaugeometer could benefit from some calibration

my first suggestion is weighting trade score more to reflect age. a 10% chance of reting should slash contract length to a max of 3 years and drop trade value to a second or third round pick. second is to calibrate o line trade scores.....they are heavy....coming form the guy who never spares on o line

I'm questioning the efforts because I don't think there will be anyone left to appreciate them.

The biggest red flag is that there are now 2 or 3 leagues that bother with any kind of roster rules anymore, and only loosely enforce them.

Why is this so problematic? It dissuades new players from joining once they realize how silly the game has become. It also represents a change in attitude by the most serious players in the game.

The challenge of the game used to be playing in leagues where you had to play within default styled parameters. You had to really pay attention to your team and game plan opponents.

With even more limited play calling and everyone needing to just play players at the lightest weight, there is no challenge anymore. And without challenge no room for players to grow or develop.

And no way to grow the community. So yeah say what you want. The 4 things I listed immediately improve the game.
