I am not big on having to pay for future seasons unless thats the direction the game is going in, I kind of like it being a free game.

I think you should only be able to trade the current seasons picks plus the next seasons picks ONLY if you have signed up for the upcoming season. If you dont sign up then you are the one causing yourself to be restricted. As it sits now you can sign up for the next season for free. That still keeps everyone on the same playing field.

This way there is no chance of a new owner coming in and getting a team gutted and having no early round picks to work with.

You wouldn't have to pay for future seasons. You just couldn't renew for next year until the trading deadline had passed.

It would still be completely free, unless you wanted to be able to trade a 2020 pick in the 2018 season, for example. But, you could trade a 2018 (preseason) or 2019 pick without having to be registered for any future seasons.

But again thats not an equal playing field, I dont want real $ being used for an advantage. Some people may not have the $ to play and they play because its free. I think once you put in the option of spending money to do anything in the game besides cosmetics you will lose a lot of owners and there will be a lot of open teams in a lot of leagues or just a lot of 1 and dones

Good point.

I don't like the idea of spending money giving anyone a competitive advantage.

I wasn't looking at it that way, but I guess it is. I was just trying to find a way to keep people from doing too much damage to a team they aren't going to be managing, while still giving everyone the option of running their team as they see fit, and keeping the game free.

I'll be playing regardless of what is done about this, but I do not like the idea of only being able to trade a pick from 1 year in the future. It's very limiting in my opinion. I think trades are a fun part of the game.

I totally agree, just dont like or want it being taken advantage of just because you can.

JD hinted at the possibility of a pay-to-play league, I say get it done and the shenanigans can go on in there. That wouldn't be for me though, and yeah you're right

Me too, but until this nonsense stops I don't think there is any other way of stamping it out.

This is my first time playing and I've made a few dumb trades already....with that being said does salary cap come into play at all? I don't see how teams can afford that many top picks

This is one aspect that hasn't been discussed but is a very valid point. One of my goals with this game is to make it hard to load up your roster and keep the players, because they will ask for more than you can afford. So I am very interested to see how that plays out in the given situation.

On the topic of only being able to trade for years you have registered for, I don't think that would solve anything on the surface because we already have people who register for a second season but don't stick around to complete the first, so short of WarEagle's idea of having to pay to renew into the next season before the trading deadline I don't see a way to guarantee someone will continue to run their team.

Right now there are two things I've implemented and one more that I plan to. The first is that I've turned down the number of future years available for trade to 3. For all the leagues with 5 years of picks, they just won't have new picks available to trade for 2 more seasons. The second is the new balance bar - which is also more restrictive in what trades it lets through. The third - yet to be implemented - is the ability to submit a trade that may be out of balance, with a minimum 24 hour period after it has been accepted by the second party for it to be taken to a vote before it is processed (probably forward 24 hours and then the next FA/Midweek stage after that), and whatever the popular vote is at that point is what happens.

I think the premium league is still also a good idea, because if players have to pay to play they will be more likely to take their team more seriously. But, I don't think there is enough interest in a premium league to launch one at this point.

I think the new things you implemented have done a good job already on the trade front.

The salary cap is another issue. I know it can be manipulated as well and i have done it to free space every season just by reworking contracts and bonuses. As long as you dont trade the players your giving high bonuses to you can really keep the Salary just 25% over the min bonus the player wants. I wouldnt have any problem at all with changing how contracts are done like increasing the salaries more for premium players. I think that would help greatly also with getting a more balance to teams. Right now you can have a team of super stars and still have plenty of cap space to go after the top FA as well and not just 1 but all of them

This is one aspect that I've been tweaking off and on - I agree that it's not quite balanced still. I'll tweak it a bit more over the next couple of weeks.
