On depth chart go to the overrides tab and you can go to different formations and move guys around on different downs and distances. This is one of my favorite aspects of mfn. I use it to mix up my defense and offense to maximize my roster’s potential. If you go through your gAme log u can find plays that your slot is being targeted most and then move your top wr to that spot but also keep him outside on other formations to get his big plays.

using overrides (located on depth chart), you can put any one anywhere in any formation (unfortunately not by play, though).

ya it's by formation. I just look at plays and then i see what formation they are in. It's a balancing act but i've got it down. I use them for third down backs and pass rushing situations. It can be a huge resource

I simply don't think I know enough to identify what play I'm running. :-)

It takes some effort, but using rules you can actually limit you offense and defense to using just one (or a couple) of formations or even plays in certain situations.

Am I not doing that by selecting those 30 or 40 plays in offensive and defensive plays?

In Gameplanning, the 3rd section is Rules. In there, you can designate certain things to be done in specific situations. Also, under Depth Chart, you can go to Overrides and plug in specific players into a specific spot in a formation and under specific circumstances.

I myself still have a lot to learn and practice in each of those two things.

I still want to know why when I pick 40 offensive plays, my team runs only 25 plays.
If the defense is "SUPPOSE" to react to the offensive formation, wouldn't it be better for teams using a diversified multiple offense instead of using an offense that has the best results for a defense at a certain time, distance, and yardage. Just saying JDB

No.

Using rules you can dictate what will happen under certain situations. For example, on third and (very) long, e.g., 20+ yards, you can tell your defense to only call pass defense and use a specific dime defense no matter what formation the offense uses. This is particlulary useful late in the game when your team is ahead. Conversely, on third and short situations, you can choose to use only a 5 WR or 2RB/3TE formation and call only short pass plays. You can also take into consideration where the ball is located on the field, e.g., between your own 20 - 40 yard lines and/or that of your opponent.

As someone else mentioned, you can also situationally substitute players to compliment your custom game plan. For example, you can substitute you best pass receiving TE if you're only going to call a pass play and use a formation which utilizes a TE. Or your best blitzing linebacker (who otherwise is on the bench) when you only call a play which utilizes the blitz.

There is literally no limit to how you can customize you game plan and substitute players in certain situations. Just recognize that injuries and fatigue might play a role when you plan on substituting players.
