But even if they haven't, how little do you have to know about NFL to not know speed is king?

I get that you can't always translate game to sport 1:1, but I've yet to see a game where a stat like speed is underwhelming. It's either "spot on" (underwhelming) or it's OP. It's never like "yeah just ignore speed".

Off topic, but some random questions...

When you guys draft players, do you start them right away if they have crazy potential? Do you sit them, and wait for them to grow, or do they grow faster with game experience in you all's opinion. I know this is situational, but yeah... How do you guys handle your first training camps?

Also do you guys draft kickers? This is out of control; people drafting kickers when there are 78+ players left on the board.

Last question... In everyone's experience does changing a players position affect them poorly in their first training camp? If I have a player that is a 2 year exp CB, and is currently at 44/77, but at FS he'd be 34/80, will he see more progress at CB, or be more capable of booming at either position?

Game experience definitely helps players grow. I use low numbers for fatigue and keep "crazy deep" depth charts, and I tweak them quite a bit. I figure if I'm not substituting almost every play, I'm doing it wrong. In pre-season, I start the guys with high potential, then rotate them down the chart for the regular season. A veteran gameplan genius who roams from league to league looking for championships might say I waste far too much time and effort on training, but that's how I play. Cross-training helps me cope with clustered injuries.

If there is one standout booming kicker or punter left in a low round of an allocation draft, I'll draft him. I usually won't draft a rookie . . . too much talent available to gamble.

A player's position when you get him is just where his last coach used him. If he has better potential somewhere else, move him. He will be happier, and so will you in the long run.

My best draft was in MLF (about a year ago), My first pick was a running back and I switched him immediately to WR (Tarquin makes a great point about the depth chart). I dont remember him having a great training camp but he had +2500 yards receiving in both seasons that I had the team. Later I picked up a future sack leader and a stud at CB. This was a draft class where you could hold off on drafting a K/P until late 30's and they'd still have ratings in the upper 80s. Some of these guys that have played for a few years will tell you that you could go deep into a draft and have many players still in the 90s to choose from. I'm sure Trslick, Smirt, Bryson10 know about that, just to name a few. I have no idea what has changed this.

You're correct. There's been a seismic shift to stray away from having elites all over the field bringing everything more towards the middle.

Effort to open things up more and I suppose to not have too many players whom can game wreck any defensive play with vitals of 95/95 speed alongside upper echelon receiver ratings.

Kickers should be brought back to where they were from this recent past change of them not being readily available. Kickers are missing much less so I believe the other side of it has been to limit their availability on a high end talent scale.

But it's kickers and we shouldn't be straddled with a 100 strength/60 accuracy kicker per se or 80/80 types which limit you. Game should be won and lost on offensive and defensive strategies, not from kickers being pulled back drastically.

While I generally agree, why even have kickers if they shouldn't have impact? A top notch kicker is the player on your team who scores most points.

Personally, I'd like to see a larger part of kickers being "serviceable". We see in the NFL too, how kicker struggles are real (43 yards+, not too many are automatic, sub 35 most are).

I hope jdb will code it, so the average is the solid, yet unspectacular, kicker who will score you those 17-45 yard field goals on a regular basis (90% of the time or so). Above those mid 40s, it should really reward those who put the money into a better kicker.

It involves more than that. Difficult to discuss it in a generalized way but I depicted on my journey in Any Given Sunday where 2 losses of 7 were legitimate and the other 5 were kicker based. I'm not going to get in a debate back and forth on the above but just kind of stop posting on the topic here except to say one more thing.

When watching the game and in situations you can get a feel for when the sim engine penalizes you for not being able to kick a field goal when you should be able to. It revs up the opposing offense on the next drive. There's various ways having a poor kicker hurts you beyond just simply missing the 45 yarder here and there. It's a handicap which is unfair when someone puts in a lot of time for strategy but is locked up due to not having a legitimate kicker available for use.

Inherited a team with poor kicker in place and no means of improving via waiver wire or draft.

Yeah I wasn't talking about your AGS situation, just in general.

If everyone has great kickers, why even have them in the game? I want the floor raised, but not so every FG is an automatic until 50 yards.

My 92/92 kicker missed a 20-something yarder last game and have missed 3 in two playoff games. More than in the entire regular season...

Edit: My, imo, good kicker:
NYA: miss a FG that's shorter than 40 yards.
BUF: miss a 20 something, a 50-something and an XP.

I'm on board with you.

There shouldn't be a flooded market of 100/100 kickers in the two categories which matter. But a team shouldn't have a season torpedoed because of a kicker, either.

Medium ground. :) Somewhere in the middle.
