Actually, a good punter makes a huge difference. Field position is much more important in 4.5. Pinning the other guy deep gives that many extra turnover opportunities.

Fortunately, there are still some owners who won't read this. If you are reading this now, it is wildly inaccurate propaganda, and was written by an imposter. I deny any responsibility for the statement, and I have also never faked sarcasm in my entire life.

A semi-decent Punter makes sense, but on the kickers, I would put much more value on the kicker to reach the deep EZ and kick game winning FG's. A semi-decent Punter is good if he can pint the opponent inside the 10....now you would like to have a strong D to capitalize.

Absolutely. A punter is a force multiplier helping the rest of the team. FG Kickers blow right past that force multiplier thing and just win games.

I respectfully disagree on the deep EZ thing. In my experience, about 75% of KRs don't make it to the 25 ... A deep kickoff looks nice, but so what? Let them try to return them.

There is no reason to settle for a semi-decent punter in this game. It's easy and cheap to find a FA punter that kicks more than 50% beyond the 20. It's not that much harder in most leagues to find a guy that can consistently plant one between the 10 and GL, and time it so that there's no return. When comparing punters, I estimate EACH point of difference in overall punting skills will lengthen the field for the opponent by about 5 effective yards per game. So every two points difference is one first down, that's the value of a good punter.

There's a glut of punting talent, and I find most owners undervalue them even further than should be caused by the glut or ridiculous trade values. They actually help weak teams more than strong teams, because weak teams punt more often.

On the other hand, a statistical study back in the 90s showed that it NEVER makes mathematical sense for an NFL level team to punt with three yards or less to go. What the statisticians didn't understand is that football is actually a very cowardly and sad game, it's all about knowing when to give up.

I never mentioned of anyone having to settle for anything....

My point is exactly what it is, and most people would take it as such, an opinion that a Kicker has more value attached to him/her/it than a punter has.

So I had a nice allocation draft! A lot of boomers, and the expected amount of busts. I signed two "rookie" free agents that exploded for 25/5, and 13/7.
