The whole point is that the game should approach real life... but it'll not be real life and never can do.

As long as it's realistic enough.

Are TE stats generated by player assigned position or their position during the play? If the latter, WRs at TE would skew things.

That TE data is interesting - I think I'm going to call that level of detail out of scope for 4.7, but instead something we might want to address in a future version. The goal right now is to actually get the passing game where the general numbers are better.

But keep that in mind for when we start discussing what we should look at for 4.8.

Interesting can of worms.. In 4.6, my impression is that the QB throws the ball mostly at the shortest routes, which means in the 40-50 plays that everyone uses, the TE gets the ball a lot. He also probably gets the least talented coverage players. In addition, with so many open teams and slow WR the TE will stand out more in terms of separation. If you adjust (lessen) pressure, you might get more WR targets and also if you loosen coverage. Or expand the number and types of plays. Lots of moving parts to consider and I hope we consider them.. Extremely thoughtful post by warrior... :)
