Another fix I'll deploy is making the coaches not look at the future value to such an extent that they don't even pay attention to the current value. The issue with Seattle is that the head coach weighed 3% of the player's value on the current and 97% on the future, which means that there are lots of really good-looking future players on the squad but many of them have no current skills whatsoever. Miami's weight was 24/76. For future leagues, the most a coach will look away from the current will be 50/50.

Does this refer to the depth charts?

No, this only affects the initial draft, or AI teams' drafts. The "auto" on the depth chart always uses current values.

So this change won't affect this league, but it hopefully will prevent what's happening in Seattle in future leagues.

I have been studying the logs over the last couple of games and am seeing some trends that I think I can work on fixing. I'm going to push an update that should improve the short passing game even more. We'll see how it looks after Tuesday's sim.

Basically when studying the stats, my expectations of the linear distance of a pass vs. the downfield distance was not what I expected. I reduced the linear distance penalty and added a downfield penalty on the passing accuracy.

Sounds like common sense but you're going to run into issues either way. I think what really needs to happen in order to reflect reality is to virtually eliminate the cross field pass. If we start seeing 30-50% of completions going to the other side of the field after one of those scrambling rollouts it's going to feel a bit gimmicky.

There currently is logic in place to block the QB from throwing to a receiver that is more than half the field away (distance across the field). That's been there for a while, are you still seeing passes that go further than that? I don't want to reduce that, because if it's less than that then the QB won't throw a sideline out pattern unless he's already on that side of the field.

These might be borderline but :

It's definitely better than it used to be though.

One thing I have noticed is that on rollouts or scrambles the QB tends to throw back towards the middle of the field a lot more than out patterns which is more the norm in the pro game.

Ah, obviously I grew up watching John Elway and you grew up watching Dan Marino.

I've added some logic to reduce the width of the field that the QB will look for a receiver as he approaches the sideline. See if the next sim seems to be more realistic in that regard.

Well that explains why bullets thrown downfield are usually incomplete while lobs end up as catches. I can send you some great links to Youtube videos if that'll help you get up to speed :P
