Latest updates feedback

All right, we're 5 games into the season using the latest updates - what do you think?

* Punt updates (hangtime, gunner coverage) - Looking at the overall stats I feel like PR TD's have decreased. How has it felt when you're watching the game? Does punt coverage feel better or is there still work to be done here?

* Scouting updates - have you noticed any impact with your team performing better against plays that you scouted? Most likely this is not something super-noticeable unless you're looking for it.

* Coach attribute influence during the game - any thoughts on how this is working? Again, probably not noticeable unless you're looking for it.

* QB throwing to open receiver - still seeing the QB throw into tight coverage when he should see another receiver? I haven't opened up the short route dump off yet. I actually had this a long time ago but it resulted in TE's being the #1 receivers, which is why it was changed to locking on a receiver. If only looking for deeper options is working I'd like to avoid opening up the shorter receiver option.

* Overuse of plays reducing in their success - has anyone noticed this having an impact? I don't know that we have any owners here who are overusing plays, if you have seen that though has your defense started stopping those plays?

* QB scramble - I saw a comment earlier about the QB still getting sacked while running to the sideline, I'd actually like to see any plays that that's still happening. Other than that, how does this feel at this point?

Ideally I'd like to freeze this engine in the next week or two for release into the other leagues before the end of August, but will hold back if there are still significant issues with these items.

Im a lil behind the 8 ball here being new to this league(5 game weeks in) but judging it by the only other league im in, the engine in this league plays a lot better.

a) Punt updates:
It looks like to me that the punt game has caught up to the kickoff game as far as a more realistic feel. Very much improved and the most noticeable.

b) Scouting updates:
I'd haven't track this and will have to pay more attention to it.

c) Coach Influence:
Same as above. Although it feels like it is I need to track it to see if it really is for me.

d) QB Throwing to an Open Receiver:
Well besides my QB being an idiot, I prolly haven't found what he likes yet. An example from this last game, He is a 89 overall rated QB with numbers in all the right places and going into the 4th QT he was 1 for 18 with 1 int and 4yds passing. Passes weren't even close to his receivers most of the time. Some of that could be game planning but prolly not all. Side note: he is not injured. It seemed a lil extreme but you might ck with morbid to see what he did on his end to see if it is within perimeters. (sorry, sounded like Star Trek's Data there for a minute)

e) Overuse of Plays:
Haven't run across that yet.

f) QB Scramble:
It seems a lil better to me. A QB trying to run outside to get away from the rush isn't that unusual but it was too excessive before. I do still see it though. For me I'd like to see more of a pocket in the pass game. And sometimes the QB could step up to make a throw or even escape the rush on occasion. Maybe an attribute down the road?

Like I noted in the beginning, I dont have that much to go by like most of the veteran GM's here will. I'm only comparing my observations to my other league. The games here so far, seem to feel more real in comparison.

I'm 5-0 so all is working perfectly.

In all seriousness, I haven't had the time to take a deeper look in to things. Punts do seem significantly better in this league as opposed to others though.

-The QB running to the sideline and taking the sack seems to be up from last season.
-accuracy from the QB in general seems to be down (I have a highly rated QB) especially on the intermediate routes.
-Pressure seems to be better at making a QB inaccurate this season.
-Punt returns seem to be about right statistically
-Slower QBs (even with high scrambling) seem to be having serious issues with getting away from the rush and throwing accurately, I believe this issue may stem from the fact that QBs simply do not stay in the pocket but instead seem to always scramble even with decent protection, it's like the QB has to run to a certain spot before they'll throw. For me this is equating to what seems like a lot of unneeded pressure and low completion percentages, although some of this is offset by the high number of long passes that get completed. Hence why guys with 48% completion are averaging 9 YPA.

As for coaches, my team in general has been better this season and I have one of the best head coach / coordinator combinations in the league. My position coaches are very young but definitely on the rise. So my team may be a good one to look at, I'm merely speculating here though because I don't know the exact impact.

What should be happening is a QB with a high scramble skill will relocate his pocket when under pressure, while a QB with low scramble skill will stay in the same pocket and should be more likely to take a sack. I may run some numbers under the hood to see if high scramble skill = more or fewer sacks.

- Pocket looks great here, QB stays in it, he is decisive with the pass and completes it for a nice 17 yard TD pass.

https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/5132#923861
- Middle of the line gets pushed in and the QB immediately bails to the left, forces the ball into heavy coverage and it gets knocked down

https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/5132#923862
- Again immediate pressure up the middle of the line, QB stays in the pocket and throws with the defender right in his face. The pass is incomplete.

https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/5132#923881
- Pressure up the middle right from the get go again.... QB rolls left, plants and throws with defenders in his face. The throw is into double coverage and WR drops it.

https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/5132#923890
- Yet again the interior of the offensive line immediately collapses, QB scrambles, gets to a good spot, plants and throws. This time he finds single coverage for a sizeable gain.

https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/5132#923892
- The DT pushes 3 blockers back into the QB and the two interior LB blitzers close on the QB and get the sack.

https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/5132#923894
- Interior pressure leads to another scramble and poor throw

https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/5132#923894
- The interior pass rush is slowed down and the QB is able to plant and throw, the decision is poor as the RDE beats the LT and closes in on the QB who then throws into double coverage and the WR drops it.

https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/5132#923901
- No complaints about this one really, just a fantastic playcall and overload blitz that is perfectly executed by the defense.

https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/5132#923902
- Can't complain about this one either, the defense brings extra guys, the QB moves to his left well and delivers a great throw to the WR in single coverage.

https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/5132#923903
- Decent protection, QB slides left eventually, the QB throws a frozen rope into a somewhat tight window but completes it.

https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/5132#923904
- Overload blitz again, QB has to scramble left, he does so nicely, the read is good but the throw is off. QB has 77 scrambling and 100 pass accuracy so I feel this is a play he should make.

https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/5132#923905
- Four man rush, the DT comes right off of the Center immediately (The Center has 100 speed, 100 acceleration, 100 pass blocking, 98 strength) and the QB has no chance.

I may have been a bit off on the QB scrambling, it seems they stay in the pocket decently but interior rushing is either overpowered or my Guards/Center sucks :/

- I think punting looks a lot better. I have a great PR guy and only have 1 PR TD this season so far. So definitely a decrease and more fair catches.

* Scouting updates - have you noticed any impact with your team performing better against plays that you scouted? Most likely this is not something super-noticeable unless you're looking for it.
- I haven't checked on a per play basis

* Coach attribute influence during the game - any thoughts on how this is working? Again, probably not noticeable unless you're looking for it.
- Don't really know

- I still see a few forces into tight coverage, but that's realistic. Not every throw will be to a wide open receiver. I would still like to see a few more dump offs to the TE or RB/FB, but nothing crazy, just some more check down plays. It makes having a TE almost useless if they dont get the ball and just block. Most TEs (minus the Gronks and Grahams of the world), are dump off/safety outlet guys.

* Overuse of plays reducing in their success - has anyone noticed this having an impact? I don't know that we have any owners here who are overusing plays, if you have seen that though has your defense started stopping those plays?
- Nothing to note

* QB scramble - I saw a comment earlier about the QB still getting sacked while running to the sideline, I'd actually like to see any plays that that's still happening. Other than that, how does this feel at this point?
- I still see my QB drift towards the sideline a lot with 3 or 4 defenders closing in and just takes the sack instead of tossing out of bounds. I think there needs to be a slight increase in throw-aways

Ideally I'd like to freeze this engine in the next week or two for release into the other leagues before the end of August, but will hold back if there are still significant issues with these items.
- All around I think its a solid release for the next update - there will always be a need for some tweaking as we go.

My TE is way up in catches so I'm guessing that is a result of the adjustments.

Probably at least half of my sacks and sacks given up are the sideline variety.

QB Scramble

https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/5097#917573

This is the first rollout sack. On a double saftey blitz.

https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/5097#917586

Mercado again.

https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/5097#917620

The RDE got this one.

https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/5097#917666

There does seem to be some correlation when blitzes take place and the receivers run deep .......my QB bolts to the sideline in hopes to out run these faster DEs. Never gonna happen as long as he's going lateral. He is average in that area, but he could have just launched it deep/short or turned up field. Perhaps experience too, because ATLs Carl Smith already turns that play in to a run up field.
