People are leaving MFN

A sad statement.
I run two leagues and am starting to see a trend of people leaving and they are all saying the same thing.
- Its just not fun anymore
- Trying to figure out the game has become tedious
- I don't have the time to keep learning after each update

I totally understand these sentiments and feel the same way myself. I just wanted to put this out there.

I'll say first, since it's not football "season", we've likely lost a small percentage due to the game isn't on everyone's mind right now.

But to your point, MFN always had football fans and fantasy computer gamers. But catering to one was always going to drive off the other. Some of us do spend a lot of time one gameplans and roster make-up. Some guys just want to log in have a little fantasy fun. But small gameplanning tweaks became gameplan overhauls when 4.4 was released and casual players threw up thier hands in disgust. We all heard the calls of "boring" from one side while the other side dug in with "muh realism" replies.

So, 4.5 was rushed and released and unsurprisingly, neither side was happy, which caused more owner defections, this time from both sides. Those that came up with a GP for 4.4 had to start again. Those who didn't still weren't happy with the depressed stats and scores.

And so in this titanic struggle between the hardcore and fantasy users, the hardcore group (unsurprisingly) won out since they dedicate more time in beta (and hats off for what you guys do!).

So what should the dev do? Cater to the games most loyal users while alienating a larger, more casual group that could offer the game a bigger financial windfall which could grow the game? Or go for the larger user base and turn away the devoted few?

I think 4.5, while rushed, is the compromise. We aren't playing 1980s football, but this isn't Madden either. The game will add players again. Once August rolls around, new gamers will want their football fix, former users will check back and some will play again with the "Great Struggle of 4.4" a distant memory. Live and learn. Adapt and overcome.

I trust JDB to bring the game back to being fun. One thing that's always in the back of my head with all the updates is that JDB is basically trying to create a level of artificial intelligence on a mass scale. That's EXTREMELY tough to do just for a single identity! But JDB is trying to make it for 22 players every single play! And in the middle of it all, there was a change to make the ratings parabolic (I think that's the term?). This shows how the underlying code to make this great game is a fragile spiderweb. There will be bumps in the road. Some small, some big. But I am confident JDB and the beta testers will get things fixed.

Lol I like the the 4.5 update because my gameplan has always been short passes and run the ball since 4.3 or 4.4 so in 4.5 I didn’t have to change anything

what I did in earlier versions is basically run the ball at a minimum and pass a lot. I did this for 2 reasons: 1) if you ran the ball a lot, all your OL, RB's and FB's would start the injury cycle and 2) passing was more productive.

Now in 4.5 I find myself starting to do the opposite. Pass the ball minimally, and move all the stud WR's to above average RB's. This can still run a team in the ground with injuries.

It is frustrating to have spent 3 seasons worth of game getting your team to be a formidable passing threat and now only have 2 or 3 receivers gaining around 600 yards a season. It feels like each update has declined in one or more ways since 4.2. I am going to deal with this by cutting down on teams and hope a future engine will achieve the promise this game had a short time ago.

I know I sound like a broken record but new versions should be tested in 1 league for a full season before general release.

If that was done for version 4.4, we wouldnt have had 3 versions released over 3 consecutive game seasons. 4.4 would have been tested and found to be flawed so what is now 4.5 would have been 4.4 which would have been tested and passed and released within the last couple of weeks.

Too much change, too quickly will drive players away especially when the changes are drastic and have flawed logic. In a roster managememt sim, it takes months of gmeplan over the coarse of severl game seasons to figure out player weights and build your francise.

Just my 2 cents, Im a league admin also and have heard from people leaving because of all the quick changes

I think I'm done. This game is too messed up. Here's a play from my last game where I lose a TD when the receiver is running free and HE STOPS RUNNING: https://badcompany.myfootballnow.com/watch/872#145073

But what's reall making me mad is the pyschic powers of Defensive Coordinators which kick-in sometime in the second half. Running on 1st down? They're run-keying. Passing on 1st down from the same formation? They're pass-keying. Runinng om 2nd and 10? They're run keying. Ignoring one of your Rules? Yeah, got that covered too.

That's the infamous trap off/cut off. Typically, you see it on other plays although this play isn't too common. I'll tell you what makes your case exponentially powerful, though.

The speed differential with the DB being about 30 speed points behind the Receiver.

BEEP, BEEP he is not. lol

I think your receiver stopped running because he got tackled. That happens in football sometimes. Tackling and stuff.
