This makes me think of a podcast I called into one time that Bryno/Bryson were hosting a several months ago. I told them both we should all start drafting several kickers/punters but jokingly and now it seems I'm not completely wrong. What's even funnier is that I just finished an allocation draft in a vets vs couple newbs league, I didnt draft a single P/K and chuckled to myself when I felt like other owners were wasting early round picks on them. Now I'm stuck with two bums in a scarce FA lol I guess most of us learn the hard way.

The shame is in the fact that you actually need kickers/punters in this new code to have a chance of winning games!

Yeah, we just finished up drafting there. As we were drafting I stumbled upon the fact that it was limited. We probably shouldn't tip everyone off. LOL

The game has changed with both positions and availability. Previously, there'd be pages of 95+ accuracy and strength kickers and the same two cats for punters to select from. Now it's stream-lined.

Competitively and respect between two owners competing in a game it should never come down to a forced scenario of having a 67 strength kicker whom boots you into return touchdowns and/or you simply can't kick field goals for the majority of the field.

When we game plan for a game, you and I would want it to come down to strategy. Not to something which has nothing to do with scouting offense/defense, selecting offensive and defensive plays....etc etc....

:)

Lol luckily for everyone else, I am still getting the hang of the new engine. So to me, my field goals are touchdowns, but this also means that I have to rely more heavily on my defense especially against owners who still average 250, 300 yards a game.

I'm beginning to think being a Ravensfan is helping me in this game.

Goal from day 1 was build a defense, get a serviceable kicker and see if it's possible to get an offense who are not losing too many games for me.

3 losses so far, all because of silly amounts of turnovers compared to normal. :)

Yeah you'll get that in your first season from what I've seen/heard, but I've also noticed that it begins to settle down a bit as you go along. I have a bad habit of quitting a team after a couple seasons though so my experience is greatly lacking.

I know it sucks - a lot (hence why I drafted a kicker in 30th round) - but you could always use a roster slot on adding a guy like this.

I doubt accuracy matters much for kickoffs.

That guy's awesome for kickoffs! Accuracy just means kicking at the returner, away from the corners of the field.

If you are stuck with a horrible kicker, you may have to change your team rules and go for it on 4th down, depending on where you are on the field. Like for example, a Kicker with 80 accuracy should be good for 30 yard field goals, so go for it until you get to that yard line, etc. If you’re Kicker has horrid accuracy, go for it until you are at like the 20 or something and just see how he does and adjust the rule each game based on that. Eventually you’ll find a good spot to go for it or go for the FG. I had to do this once for a Kicker whose leg was very weak.

I see Smirt’s point though. If you are in an allocation draft, and only like 16 good kickers are available, then half the league is outta luck and there could potentially be many games that’s results are based on who got a Kicker early and who didn’t in the allocation draft. Completely not what the outcome should be based on. There should be more kickers (at least reasonable) in an allocation draft.

Yeah nods it needs a re-calibration because I now have honed in on a couple of regular drafts and I see what's going on. Kicker options are reduced, lesser rated and that's fine because I understand it's striking a balance of getting away from the /100, /100 kicker days while fixing the sim to react to FGs via the ratings.

Meaning JDB has made field goals connect a lot more now with no more shanking of extra points and regular field goals when the kicker is rated as they've always have been (elite, top end) they hit with regularity.

So it's introducing more poorly rated FG kickers to balance things.

However, a little calibration is needed definitely in dispersal drafts/commencement of leagues and newer 2nd year leagues to get a proper kicker pool for the changes. :)

Don't we want to see GMs competing for elite kickers the way they do for cornerbacks? Time to stock up on punters in case that is the next position with a talent scarcity. ;)
